Hey everybody,
Started out kiting to stop myself from being bored every afternoon after work (internship) here in pdx. Was a little discouraged by all the sh*t that can happen to ya (i.e. death) but I payed for my lessons nonetheless. Then came the kite and board, and harness. It was fun to have the gear but needed to actually get out and use it.
Thanks to you guys I learned about Sauvie's Island and got my first ride out there (some might remember me getting yanked off of my board a few times). Finally made it out to Stevenson and the sandbar, and have been going as much as possible. There aren't many things that I would drive over 2 hours a day for, sure glad I got an 11m and not a 14 (thanks to some very helpful advice on the forum) otherwise I wouldn't be going to the gorge. I'd be stuck waiting for Sauvie's.
It's also been good to see some people from the forum out on the water (I'm glad I chose spike as my alias, kinda fun to hear "hey Spike!"on the beach ) Just wanted y'all to know how much I appreciate all the help I've gotten both on the forum and out on the beach.
I sort of wish there was more interpersonal interaction between everybody off the water since there's not much talking when you're overpowered on an 11m bouncing on the waves at over 20 knots (I've been bringing a wrist gps with me). I still don't know that many people and it would be cool to have a movie night (sorry if that sounds cheesy) or something to get a chance to get to know everybody a little bit better than just a name and a face (or avatar for that matter). So with that, thanks for the help and I could not have picked a better cure for boredom! Hope to meet some more of you.

Spike your definitely rookie of the year in my book, chasing down the wind as often as you can and not afraid to head out east for the real thing!
I think you said your current internship ends at 3pm everyday? man that's a dream job for kiting!

Spike-
Way to go on getting out there! My vote for Rookie of the year as well !!
I saw you packing up yesterday as I was heading out and recognized you from your picture. Almost stopped to say something.. now I wish I had.
I'm guessing that pic is of you? Way to go. Already you've got better form than many who have been riding for years... especially for learning on a bow kite, which tends to promote the ass out stance.
We do do movie nights and such and guess we'll have to get something rolling soon...
Welcome to the community and thanks for sharing your stoke!! Now- use that stoke to do some good and register for KB4C. Kiteboard all day from the event site and raise $$ for a good cause.

The kite in the pic is me and my 11m slingshot turbo II. Tekko, about the ass-out stance, I had to look for a pic that I wasn't doing it too obviously in (my dad visited the sandbar yesterday and took a few pics). It's nice to get a third person view of yourself, hels you see what you could do better. Now I know why my back feels sore so quickly, gotta stand up more straight. The kiteboard for cancer thing sounds like fun, I'll try to make it that day. BTW, there should be a prize for rookie of the year we could pass it on every year to a new rookie, (starting next year of course) Being able to leave for the gorge at 3:30 is pretty sweet, get just the right amount of riding in before the wind dies. As for the beer, uhm, I got no excuse.

I'm still kicking around the idea of buying that KB vs WS video "taking the beach" or whatever it was called" and having some kind of drink a thon movie night.
Still juggling massive work load, new baby, and trying to re-learn to walk though.
