Lots of emergency vehicles, police boats and even planes out last evening searching the river.
Anyone know whats up? |

| Police boats still searching this morning around the Hood River Sandbar so please be aware and keep your distance if you plan to kite there today. Last night's search also seemed to focus up near the White Salmon River bridge until it got too dark. |

Wed, Aug 5 evening involved people playing/swimming near the edge of the sandbar. Don’t know the exact details and the sheriff has posted nothing. Here’s what I do know as I was on the water and searching:
A kiter pulled in adult swimmer in distress who I believe is okay.
Another kiter found a youngster unresponsive floating near white salmon bridge. Sheriff picked them up, condition unknown.
A 3rd person was still being searched for at dusk.
Incredibly sad and tragic. Prayers to all involved. (This follows 3 days ago, ATrain saved an 8y/o kid in distress north of the marina. Kid was exhausted and could have been a tragedy)
Keep your eyes peeled and take care of each other. Please post updates if your hear. |

According the Hood River News, 7 people in a church group from Ridgefield, WA were swimming off the Marina park. 5 were rescued and 2 drowned. They were still searching for the second person today. Very sad!
A kiter friend rescued 2 kids 2 days ago screaming for help at the tip of the HR sandbar. He ditched his board and they hung onto his harness. Very Happy!
