Sun May 20, 07 3:01 pm Camping around Hood River and on the Coast?? |
|
|
Couple of us Canadians are heading down your way this summer for some kiting and surfing. We wanted to spend a couple days kiting around hood river and then spend a couple days on the coast surfing or kiting if there is wind.
We want to camp so I was hoping someone could tell us where the best places are to camp. |

I was just in the Hood this weekend and camped at Tucker Park. Nice, clean campground and one of the closest to town. I think it's $18/night.
I'd also like to find some good campgrounds on the coast |

Oregon State Parks has a reservations on the web.
Usually real F'n crowded. So reservations mandatory, you might get lucky and get a site but don't count on it. |

As boredbrain said, you'd probably have some trouble getting reservations for a nice campground on the coast, but up north (Astoria/Seaside) look into Fort Stevens, on the central coast (Newport/Lincoln City), Beverly Beach or South Beach, and further down south where I personally have never been, Flora's Lake! My dad schedule's our annual camping trips to Beverly, 9 months in advance, and we don't always get the sites we prefer... |

Oswald West state park has some 'first come/ first serve sites' - hike in and camp style. This is one of the best surfing spots on the North coast, with kitesurfing just 10 min. south at Manzanita. Check out Fort Stevens S.P. to the North for reservation camping, or the state park in Manzanita. |

Another good one... Roosevelt! kiting literally a stones throw away from where you camp, and its free! The showers are just okay (don't think they were warm when I was there) but if you are kiting everyday who cares about showers? |

Plenty of people camp right on Sunset Beach-- not totally legit but I've never had a problem doing it-- Better like sand in you pancakes though, as you are totally exposed. |
