Hi all,
Been lurking this great forum for awhile now, and I have a question perhaps you vets can answer. This year, I finnally made the commitment required to be a self sufficient kiter but i am still a noob. I can do small boosts, go upwind. I am using twin tips, but have an Old Naish Sky Pirate from several years ago. Is this thing strictly a beginner board or can it be used for the stuff people are buying directional boards for - low wind and waves?
thanks in advance,
Ken |

i have a butt pirate too! i took the straps off and use it occasionally. I'm working up to taking it out in the waves. Its shape is a lot like a normal short board. I'm betting it will be fine. |

I think it depends on how you want to ride the waves. I believe the new directionals are WAY better for surf, but you can still have fun on a sky pirate. If you get a chance, test the sky pirate beside a proper waveboard..for instance the 5'10 Naish, and you'll feel the difference.
The skypirate wasn't really designed for wave riding.
What waves are you riding? Also there is a difference ebtween riding between the waves and down the line...
I am no expert, but going down the wave, making a bottom turn go back up and smack the lip is an amazing feeling for sure Well worth the investment. I don;t think you can make the same tight turns with a skypirate...of course, if you're good enough you can make anything look good...I'm not
