Mon Apr 30, 07 7:41 am Recommendations for a good beginnner rig |
|
|
Hi! I'm based in Boston, a windsurfer getting into kiting this year. Wondering if anyone has a recommendation for a good kite for starting out. I hear getting a bow is essential; what brands and sizes do you think would work best? Also, if anyone has board suggestions that would be helpful. Thanks!!

Noooooo!!!!.... not another one of these threads. Let me start:
I enjoy kites from XXXXXXXX they work great because they depower awesome and are really good at going upwind. I hear kites from XXXXXXXX work terrible and are prone to all kinds of problems.
Seriously though I suggest hooking up with your local crew of kiters and/or shops/schools to get advice on kites, because I doubt anyone from here has much knowledge on the riding conditions/ wind speeds in Boston. |

he's just cranky cause we have had a bunch of these post lately and they just start gear wars.
Just spend some time and go through the forums and you will find all the info you need. PKH is right, you should really try to find some local kiters to help you find the right gear for your area. |

great, I tell him to check out Nwkite for some info and advice and the moderator snubs him. LOL
Betty is right, use the search function to dig up all of the torturous threads on this subject. In PK defense, these are the kinds of posts that make your skin crawl.
But what the hell, I got nothing but time so I'll chime in. Beginers should steer towards bow kites, the depower more than C's and that makes them safer and easier to handle in gusty conditions.
You got cash to spend..look into a crossbow, you want to spend less or see if you like kiteboarding? Look into a waroo. Net difference to a beginner? money.
boards boards boards. I still say save your money and buy a jimmy lewis model III for moderate to strong winds and make a plywood skim board with little fins for lightwind days. There are sooo may boards out there.
Anyone know a good "old" board that can be had on the cheap for a skinny newb? |
