it's taken quite a while, but I finally completed my board quiver. interesting to see all the outlines back to back. since i have 0 fin, 2 fin, 3 fin, and 4 fin, in theory i need a single fin longboard to complete it. 6'2" surfboard would be the preferred addition though. i have confirmed that 4'9" swell pig is the best river board ever. it's getting to be a competitive lineup, so we'll see if any of the boards fall off the list this season.

very interesting to see the trends in boards these days. two years ago, that would have been a twin tips in 122, 127 and 130 for the 'light' days. sauvies is going to be sailable in all conditions with the set up that you have gabe. you should never get skunked with that array of boards.

have you used the swell pig at sauvies or is that really for powered up riding?

Damn Gabe, you got lots of board. I'd be interested in trying some of them at the coast this summer if you're willing to share.

pete, that cabal looks very nice. is it the carbon one? looks like you've gone with the minimalist approach of wax. i would say that you don't really "step up" to a surfboard. i still think a skim is the most noble and pure board that exists, and it is certainly far more difficult to do the same things on a skim as any other directional board. now that you have played with the skim you will be able to pickup any surf type board and it will be trivial in comparison. you'll like it. it's like running with weights removed.

kt, i have never kited at SI b/c i don't live in PDX. generally, i really don't like lightwind and flat water at all, and these boards aren't primarily for that. the skim is generally the best choice though in marginal stuff (but i am tempted to think the swell pig will have remarkable low end). i generally think that skims have gotten kind of an unfortunate reputation as a light wind "insurance policy" for just salvaging the most worthless days. in reality, they are by far most fun for me in high winds with a small kite and glassy swell or small waves. there is a whole discipline of flat water skim tricks from skateboarding which is very impressive but i never got into it. i just dont get enough kite time to to spend sessions learning tricks that aren't immediately gratifying.

gene, yep you can try some this summer. you might want to fly a smaller kite than your 12 octane at manzo though.

Yeah Phil
the boards are pristine because
I don't get out on the water enough
my priorities are hosed

Gabe
The Cabal I guess is carbon
do they make black texalium ?
I couldnt ride the skim without grip
not a big fan of wax
My first trip with it I put
duct tape on the top for grip
and had to wear booties

I just added some surf pads
Tried sand skimming the cabal and
trashed the bottom on some rocks

half a dozen compression dents
and tore through the bottom skin
decided it is better used for kiting
I will get a ply skim for traditional skimming

The big Hein took a ride over a reef
in El Sargento during a botched landing this winter
and cosmetically messed up the gold texalium,
can't see the damage in the photo

interesting history on the 127,
used to be blue and white
and spent an evening
out on the columbia up against
the rocks near the White Salmon Bridge
I think a fisherman found it
I stripped the paint, sanded it down
and had Penxa fill and repaint it.
Nissan solar yellow I think

He also took pity on me and polished up the bottom too
so I could see the texalium weave again

The boards are tough !
need to ride them more
Pete
