So for whatever reason I got the idea in the head that I really wanted a SS octane for the mid sized kite in my quiver. Mostly because those that have them can not tell me enough how much they like them. It just seems odd as SS doesn't even make them anymore.

So I have a line on a 14m with bar/lines for $500 shipped. Anyone have any thoughts on them? my quiver would be 9m CB, 14m octane , and 16m CB.
I kind of want that c-kite whip me beat me feeling. Plus I hear that the octane gives insane hangtime...and who doesn't like that.

Thanks for any advice, I just don't want to buy another dud kite.

If you think that's something you'd want then you should go for it! I had a 12m Octane all last summer and just bought a new 14m one for really cheap. Power wise it's probably more like a 13m Fuel, but with a better high end and boosting power. It's definitely slower than my 12, but it's still plenty fast to boost huge and do kiteloops comfortably and all that. They also handle gusts pretty well letting you go faster and bigger instead of just getting pulled off your edge. I think the reason they stopped making them is because it was expensive to make and not enough people were buying them (due to stability and popularity of the Fuel). I almost like my 14m better for trying new tricks since it's more stable, but still allows me to do everything similarly well. People love this kite for a reason, and most likely so will you.

PS The boosting on these things is ridiculous as you've heard.

the octaine is an awesome kite. but honestly, a 9m then a 14m being your next kite size up? that is a big gap in your quiver. I think you would be better off getting a 12m octane, if you can find one. The 14m is toward the larger end of the spectrum on octanes and might not fly as fast as you'd like. I wouldn't buy the 14m without flying it first, but seeing as how you just had surgery and all, that is just kind of a bummer....

I know the 12m flys really fast, it would also narrow the gap in your quiver. Having a 14m and a 16m seems kinda redundant, for me anyway (weighing in at 160), altho depending on your weight, it may fit right.

oh CB == crossbow, yea, go ahead and get the 14m that'll fit right in

I find the Octane's fly about 2M less than they size out at. So a 14 is like a 12M C-kite from some other company. Great hang time and you can really fly them in strong winds.
Hope that helps.

I wouldn't recommend a 12m since you have a 9m bow kite. Keep in mind that most bows fly bigger than their C kite equivalent and Octanes fly smaller. I typically ride my 12m Octane when most people are on 9m bows. I think the 14m is the better choice for your quiver.

Thanks a BUNCH guys!!! I was worried that my quiver would be all janked but it is good to hear other people say that they fly a little smaller than regular C kites.

Just sent the guy his cash, the kite should be here by friday. Can't wait till July when I can actually try it. Rolling Eyes Sad
