A lighthearted debate.
That is what this should be.
There are no world altering
consequences in the balance.
No harm in taking a firm
stand based on basic
freedoms. I have done
nothing wrong.
I want to take my kite
for a walk at the port.
And when I want to fly it.
you know where I'll be. |

I'm fully buzzed Hein... SPI rocks in April (it took me 4 years to figure out April is the only month to come.) Speaking of rocks, that's what we have to land our kites on at Holly. Rocks and dirt with some glass mixed in. Grass or even clean gorge sand seem like a distant dream.
Talk is cheap, posting on the forum even cheaper. Best to handle this stuff in person at the next CGKA meeting. By the way, when is that going to be? |

Kiters wear pink sneakers and live with their parents. Windsurfing is a real sport, ban kiting from the Gorge! |

Pumping up a "kite", is very different than the sport of Kiteboarding. I really doubt anyone can argue this basic fact. Last time I read the sign at the event site it said "No Kiteboarding allowed from this point" Nothing about inflating kites, air mattresses, bike tires, inner tubes, etc. End of discussion. |

Agreed - though I think this forum is great for throwing around ideas. The forum format is nice because it allows many people to participate that could not otherwise. Is there a way to have a 'on line' meeting - kind of like the on line interviews and discussions that take place? |

Yeah but making the effort to show up in person and voice your opinion shows you really care, or even better volunteer to join the board and help take action. The Port is going to listen to an organized body of real people, not a bunch of posters online.
Ironically from what I hear a lot of the members of the Port and windsurfers alike lurk the forum to track what we are all thinking on this issue. It seems unfair to me that our discussion is really transparent to them and we can't talk back without attending meetings, but that's the way it goes I guess.
Here's info on the next CGKA meeting:

Hey, we just want a little grass man. To hang out and pump up. On the safe, downwind, east end of the site. Is this really too much to ask for?
The windsurfers will Not be using this end of the site this year because it is too close to the sandbar and they will not be able to sail in and out on this side. If it gets crowded on the holidays we are smart enough to move to where there is more acreage. Laying out kite lines and launching is understood on the sandbar only, outside the 600' safe zone.
This seems like a safe solution to keep everyone happy this year. It also seems that this should have been negotiated for (??). There is no safety issue with simply pumping up downwind of everyone. Is it too late to voice our opinion and have this changed? |

so talk is cheap, and when it is all said and done, there is much more said than done. so what? some people like to go to meetings and think that such acitivity brings about change. others have a more realistic perspective.
what drives people to change is self interest. when the port is their ultimate wisdom finds something in it for them, kiters will get full respect.
hein aint whining, he is representning for a lot of us.
i like the idea of giving the spit a wide berth for a year , and let hr and the port stew in their own size 42 britches. for me, no hr this year. their loss.

As a former windsurfer I can tell you that HR will lose hugely if they ignore the dreams of the Kite community. I'm saying this because of how floored I am by the growth of this sport. Almost every time I am at any launch there's at least couple of people just learning, or wanting to learn real soon. That kind of growth hasn't been in windsurfing for decades. Maybe if there were a CLEARLY DEFINED 40'X40" space to pump/deflate without sand... what's the harm? Just as long as the out-of-towners understand this rule and we don't encroach onto the rest of the E.S.
Note: By "former"... I mean only a year ago.

I should be banned! "Magic you fell into my trap, I will now destroy you"....................sorry just like the way that sounds. Just having some word fun on the forum broseph, trying to add levity to a subject that is out wee bit out of hand. I agree with Hein so there! Steve B |

Please respect the CGKA.
They are in the best position to
bring this issue before the Port.
I just joined. And you should
too. Here is the link
In doing so you will be assured
a vote when this issue comes up
for one during the next meeting.
P.S.
I'm really not in favor of a kite
corral. I see no reason why I
can't be with my inflated kite
anywhere on port property.
I'll be launching and landing
from the kite area on the sandbar
or off the crook in the hook.
