well, there's always enough for that! I remember when I was at the "play with a trainer stage" thinking "the coast is always windy! it's so great to be able to go whenever it's convenient and always get a session"

little did i know Rolling Eyes

Question - the temperature of the water at the coast is usually about 55 degrees F year round, right? Thats like bath water compared to the gorge Crying or Very sad

Initial appearances are deceiving. Florence blew 7-17 today which is just enough wind to get you out in the 14ft monsters and get crushed. South wind is tricky for most of us and is usually not worth the trip. It is like bath water compared to the gorge this time of year. The fish are just a bit bigger here Cool

come show me the magic. I will come out just to see how you do in 10-15 mph and double over head west swell closeouts. It can be done don't get me wrong but its more like survival kiting.

south wind is for locals (jahambi, blowhard etc.). if one of us urbanites drives out for south wind it is a sure guarentee it will shut down (or turn onshore and dump rain).

last couple springs have been different --- usually a solid week of sunny N wind and manageable swell in march, and maybe a couple weeks like that in april. this year pretty slim pickens.

thing is - you gotta get some goodness in the spring, because late-july/august brings it's share of fog-gonnit days.

bottom line - traffic be damned, i'm moving to pdx!

I got some good kiting in at beverly beach on friday with a couple friends. We where all on 9s', kited for at least 3 hours. The waves wheren't great, but I got a few rides and it was buttery smooth inbetween sets. The bonus was, no rain Smile

how is that beach? I've only hit the jetty and S. beach. It sounds like a good spot when the others are packed in the summer. (packed for florence standards..over six kites Wink )

Beach is clear of debri, etc. for the most part... Can have a lot of people at times since it's a campground, but completely doable. I've only ridden there a few times (mostly when my fam goes camping there), otherwise I'd rather just ride at South Beach.
