LOL that video is pretty funny. Major skunkage at stevenson last week but hell or high water I was going to try out my new 5/4/3 oneil.
So yeah, I have talked to some of you who called me about boarding this sunday but it seems that I won't be boarding for at least a couple of months. Here is the deal....
Last thursday I was playing dodgeball and when I planted my foot to cream this dude with the ball I just collapsed on the ground. I couldn't feel my foot and when I tried to stand on it I just collapsed. I thought I broke me leg. The pain did not go away at all and my leg was starting to cramp.
I went to the ER (which was a zoo!) and eventually told the Dr what happened. She said "uh huh, roll over on your belly" she pinched my right calf and then my left. "you achilies tendon is gone" "GONE!! What do you mean GONE!!!" "well, its torn in half or torn off the bone; someone will be in to put you in a splint, you need to see a specialist next week to schedule surgery"
Soooo the monkey boy is now sitting on the couch washing pain meds down with beer; watching lots of TV, and all in all being pretty mutha fucking depressed.
See everyone in JULY!!

sorry to hear the news.
i tore both my right and left achilies 7 years ago. tore the first one windsurfing. had surgery and 5 months of rehab, then tore the other one on the 6 month anniversary of tearing the first while running on the beach. another surgery and rehab and i was back. each took about 5 months before i was ready to hit the water with confidence.
just be patient and do what the doctor tells you to do. the key from what i remember is to get surgery asap. then follow all doctor instructions exactly, do the rehab, and be confident that you will be fully back. just dont rush it. gotta let the tendon heal fully. each took about one year before i forgot about the injury. my achilies are stronger now than before the tears.
pm me if you have any questions. the first time around i didnt know what to expect. definately the second time around was easier for me, i knew what to expect following surgery, how to get around the house, work, ect. my surgeon in tualatin rocked. my only complaint was not getting a two-for-one discount on the second surgery. |

ps: if you are looking for a new hobby to now commit all of your non water time during the next 5 months, consider either gardening or taking an executive organizational position with the cgka. a great way to stay in the game. we will toast to your quick recovery.

monkeyboy,
so i've never met you but have read many of your posts and pressed the esc key a time or two to stop your frequently-annoying gifs.
so i'm sitting in a local couv coffee shop this am and i overhear two ladies talking about this guy/friend from work who "tore his achilles." One says, "yeah he tore his achilles", and the other asks, "oh, did he do it kitesurfing?" I didn't hear her response.................
but then me coffee starts kicking in and the wheels start turning (hmmmmm.... recent nwkite post "monkeyboy is out".... ripped achilles, playing dodgeball not kiting, recently skunked at stevenson, will be on kitelaunch duty this summer). so i asked these ladies how "their friend" tore achilles... and the dodgeball story was retold. haha.
small world in the couv coffee lounge, or rather "kiters lounge". your story being told/spread across small town america.
seriously though, good luck with rehab and hope to officially meet you at a kite beach someday soon.

I would second this!
Actually, we have never met, but look forward to the day.
Since bam bam is on some island in the pacific, it would be cool to have another photo poster in the gorge.
You should maybe pick up a camera and start getting some action shots. that's another good way to hang with your kiting friends and sharing the stoke! I have an extra SLR camera if you are interested in picking up photography this summer.
good luck in your recovery.

ok ok I'm going under the knife already. So on thursday they will cut me open and sew my tendon back together then...
1. 10 days in a office made splint
2. then 4 weeks in a plastic "boot" until I can support weight on my leg
3. 2 more weeks and my tendon is fully healed but, ooops I can't walk or bend my ankle.
4. 2 months of physical therapy and I'm able to head to Sauvie and mow the lawn (shooting for July)
5. Another month and I should be able to jump, ride toeside, and actually have 70% of my motion back.
6. After 6 months I should be back to 90%. Yahooo!! September sessions at Rooster!!!
Thanks again for the support, it really does mean allot. If I had to say one thing to all of you; make sure you always have health insurance. :0 |

Good luck under the knife, you are going to do great. A well informed patient like yourself always has the best outcomes. Everyone that needs medical treatment should follow your model as you have clearly asked all the right questions about how the injury happened, how the medical team will repair it and finally the follow up care that the physio team will help you with.
Best wishes.. _________________ It's all good |

I hope everything went well today. When you wake up, I don't think you'll be feelin' very well--but sooner than you think you will be back! Amen to getting it over!! |
