everything you need to know - http://www.floraslake.com/flw2.html
the season is
april - may (shoulder season cold wet some windy days)
june - july - august (prime season north winds)
september - october (shoulder season less windy days)
campground is right on the lake. the lake is adjacent to the beach.

it's a small place, small campground with no entertainment for children except the nature of the lake and ocean. the beach is a short walk around the lake and over the dunes.
when i say no entertainment for kids - i mean that in a good way. it's quality time with the family - you just need to be creative.
and take warm clothes and sleeping bags for the chilly nights and mornings.
lake is cold - full wetsuit.
shallow north end of lake is great for learning to kite or practicing a new skill like riding strapless or learning to jump.
my whole family (4 of us) learned to kitewith Will and Andy - the best teachers on the west coast.

Make sure you get reservations at the camp site! They get booked and the new stewards will not squeeze you in/overbook at the Boice Cope campground and you'll have to pay double to stay further away at the next available KOA campground.
Floras lake is my team's favorite spot. Solid steady wind, no chop and if you get in trouble, just stand up and walk out. It's awesome! |

I 2nd that. Along with Will's sons, and probably whoever else has been hired since my time there, exceptional crew. _________________ I don’t know about you, but I take comfort in that, knowin’ he’s out there. Most importantly, that general store in Langlois has $5 growler fills EVERY DAY! They had Double Mountain Gypsy Stumpy last time I was down there. |

This is true. Best part of the trip (and responsible for some funny text messaging (or so I'm told)). |

Stoked to head to Floras to camp overnight Friday and ride all day Saturday! Had a great first Floras experience a little bit ago, and can't wait to head back for longer sessions this time. I'm hoping for a tent site at the campground, but with the wind coming in the next few days I imagine it might be busy. What's the best backup plan, KOA or Cape Blanco?
I'm also relatively new to Oregon and hoping to get into the kiting community here, so come say hi and I'll have a beer with your name on it I'm usually on a black and red Ozone Enduro, so if you see that kite it's probably me. |

This time of year the Koa is the best choice. It's out of the fog line has a pool and hot tub and is 5 minutes away. Pankcakes some mornings and an evening train ride around the park:-)! Sun shines about 7-8 when the lake is fogged in for the first few hours or you r just waiting for the dew to dry up! _________________ Take a breath; inhale |
