I have not been over there yet to check it out i have only seen pictures, but there is a big field that is right off the highway that is connected to Sparks Lake. Like i said, i have not been over there to check out how big or what kind of wind exposure it will have but if you want to look at it google sparks lake images and you can check it out. Also if anyone has knowedge of the area please post something.

open areas is not the problem over there . the good wind is the problem. And it does happen but hard to get when not living in bend. Across the street is the moon mountain area bordering the park so the slednecks don't track it up but the wind is all over the place. All I can suggest is go get it and report back to us. We have sledded all over and have not found better winds than crater and its got great snow.

when was the last time you've been there? (crater) is there still a good amount of snow? I've been bummed out about the snow this year...seems like water riding came early

Trevor had some luck in the snow machine park across the road from the mountain. I think he said the wind was real light but it was still do-able.

Wickiup reservoir is the other spot, but like you said you need a lot of snow.

haven't been to crater in 3-4 weeks, sure there is still plenty of snow in what condition who knows. Is Wikiup accessable in the winter , even with sled its a ways in isn't it. I want some features. Mowing the lawn doesn't do it for me.

yeh the wind here isn't the best... had some good sessions at wickiup last fall... you just body drag out to the island, and off you go... some windsurfers, and the wind usually dies around 5... But im going camping there really soon, so Ill give a report///

But if anyone planing going kiting around bend, hook me up... i havent launchd a kite since november... need to get out there.....

I snowkitted there during Feb. I was told by the Forest service guy...

North half of that area is for motorized Use Only, the the Southern half you can use for non-motorized sports.
There are lots of signs posted to reflect this. I just thought it was for no motorized in this area. They made

Which puts kiteboarding up aginst Tumalo Mt and in a wierd wind shadow. It is alright if you just want to check it out snow kiting, but not ideal by any means.
