| Any suggestions on good camping spots with close access to kiting on the Coast? I don't care if it's north/south or somewhere in between. I've got a few free days to head out and look for wind. Does Floras Lake go off this time of year? Thanks for any advice!! Is anyone else heading to coast vs. the gorge this weekend? |

hey don't be sorry dude, we've just been out kiting is all. 
Floras is a crap shoot this time of year... I'd aim more for April/May, and even then you could get skunked.
If you're Portland based I'd check out Sauvies. Its usually steady wind and mellow overall (much more so than the Gorge.) It usually blows whenever its clear skies and 70+ in Portland. There is a good guide in the spots section here:

Really if your totally new you need to have some lessons. Its still too cold, so most the schools haven't started up yet. I think they are all coming online around May. New Wind is a good school if you are looking for lessons in the Gorge: http://www.newwindkiteboarding.com |

Hey, thanks for the info. I'm a newbie to nwkite. Don't worry about the lessons as I learned all the hard stuff last summer. I'm looking to have fun and learn the tricks this year.
Options are key as my experiences are limited to HR and Rooster. I'd like to spend more time at the coast until the Columbia warms up. Is it possible to ride in a light rain? I realize it wouldn't be much fun  |

rain typically isn't a problem, its just kind of drag as when your done with a session everything is soaking wet and you need to string your shit up in the basement and dry it out.

the coast forecast is sweet. Anywhere you go where people normally ride will be occupied I am sure. A little rain probably won't melt you until like june, those june sprinkles are deadly.  Sunday looks to be the day but personally I can't risk it and will be out there sat , sun and monday to. I was trying to figure out the diagram and jargon in the other post thats why I didn't post earlier. .
Since you learned all the hard stuff your first year those big waves will be a blast. |
