Was thinking about getting setup for some music on the water. I was thinking of getting waterproof earbuds for the gym and pool. And who knows maybe even for kiting. was wondering what you guys like to do for music player/water proof setup.

thanks!

I tried the music on the water while kiting. http://waterfi.com/
I got the waterproof Ipod and ear buds from waterfi.
It's totally useless as the wind noise in my ears is amplified when it hits the ear buds.
The wind noise is so loud I could not hear the music unless I turned the volume to 10. I'm already 50% hearing impaired in one ear from loud music all my life.

It might work if there was some sort of noise cancelling ear phones available...

I tried a few variations but could not get rid of the wind noise and found them to be totally useless.

I see few people on the water listening to music and I wonder how they do it... guessing they also turn the volume up to 10?

have used the waterfi setup for the last 2-3 years. love them. no problems. plus they keep the cold water out & hopefully are delaying a probable surfer's ear surgery for me. I don't have to have them on max volume... unless it's blowing 6meter!!

For lap swimming I've been using an waterproof ipod nano from underwater audio for 4 years and love it. It's super and I can't stand swimming without it. It just clips onto your goggle strap and the earbuds come in many sizes to fit your holes. The battery seems to last forever.

I haven't ever tried it out while kiting.

Underwater Audio is from Oregon.

+1. I can't imagine riding without my music. When I first tried it I did experience LDHR's issue with wind noise and having to crank up the volume past comfort level so my workaround is a thin Promotion headband to help keep the ear buds tight, dry, quiet and in place during a yard sale. Cuts wind noise completely and no need for sun screen for ears, or above the eyes/forehead so no stinging eyes and another layer of defense against surfer's ear and Hanford run-off.

Yes I ordered these as well. First batch hopefully ships in April so it'll give you a little time to play around with them.

Ive used the waterfi on the river as well as kiting. With that said, i have lost 3-4 or them. It is probably just me, but i have had the worst luck with them going in the drink. I used a bungy type cord and put it around. my neck. That seemed to work.

I know exactly what you mean... I've experienced this myself, and the cause is ill-fitting earbuds. With the right fitting earbuds, I find that even with music turned off, the wind-noise is greatly reduced. One thing I do to avoid potential hearing loss is set my volume to a comfortable level before I go out on the water. I'm with Sella.. once I started listening to music while kiting, there was no going back. I've had one of those waterproof shuffle things thats lasted for years. There's another one in the shallow water off the sandbar somewhere... the 80's hits playlist alone would make it a real score for some lucky kiter! Smile

Waterfi, on some thin climbing rope made with double fishermans into a sliding necklace, and if you want a fishing line or thin safety. I've never lost one, learned this trick from Brandon Schneid, who I saw had this a the Blowout 2012 or 13

Underwater Audio is fine too, but that one stopped working after a while.

I've gone through a few earbuds--these seem to malfunction quickly-- and btw iPhone earbuds work fine also (they start sounding weird from water but then dry out and work fine)

I agree with Sella and Decrepit I'll never go back--it's like a safe drug and a session is always more enjoyable (amazingly) with it.

They are not waterproof, are they? And they wont work with Shuffle either. Will they?

I like the headband idea Ken! Seems like good insurance against losing them.

I'm curious to see how well the earbuds will work.

Alright you guys are killing me. Here is my perfect waterfi setup. I have never lost one, sounds great, and it is easy to change songs, adjust volume.

Good luck,
Brian
