Sun Aug 09, 15 8:43 am Manzo offical/correct downwinder length |
|

So I was fortunate enough to be able to do a Manzo DW'er from the motel with the pool to the State Day Use Park.
I had my bro in tow, his GF, my bro-in-law, and a nephew. They launched me and walked down the length of the DW'er while I sailed and my bro's GF drove the car down to the day use area.
So my bro was saying that the walk/sail from North to South is over two miles and I had to disagree with him. . . I've always though it was 1.5 miles.
DOES anyone have actual GPS data to help determine the actual distance?
On another note, the swell was like 4' on Friday and the biggest waves were head-high.
Get some!
The water clarity was absolutely crystal clear--wow! Same for Short Sands beach too and we stopped off there for a hike and lunch before my Manzo Dw'er!
9m meter with a surfboard was used and what an awesome day for sure!

If you are talking from the pool to the day use area in the parking lot by the horse rentals, it looks to be 2 miles on google maps.
Also, I know you like to call it "Manzo", but Ikite seems to prefer "Manzi". There are no Os in Manzanita - so it seems like it should be Manzi or Manza (but Manza sounds kind of weird).

Thanks for the quick reply. I'm still wanting someone's GPS data (anyone?)
As for nicknaming Manzanita. . . Lewis and Clark got to name things as they were first on the scene when discovering this wonderful country we live in. . . so life is all about timing. . . Wind Slither was here before you on this forum and so he has/had the honor of giving Manzanita its NWkite nickname aka MANZO.
As for ikite's Manzanita nickname, I think diversity is best.
Good winds to all.

This is a super handy tool...haven't seen anything else like it!
http://www.daftlogic.com/projects-google-maps-distance-calculator.htm
It runs on top of googlemaps and you can use the sat images and drop little waypoints and calculate distance between any series of points.
I use it for scoping out downwinders in far off lands and figuring out distance for open water swims.
It doesn't run in all browsers I use it in firefox.
