Sat May 10, 14 7:36 am Surfboard with a recessed deck? |
|
|
I have a slingshot misfish that I still enjoy riding. I am curious about finding a board that had the same build design but in a more traditional size, kinda like the axis board but bigger. I want a misfish that is 6' to 6'4"! Anybody have an idea where I could get something like this? Don't you think it would be a fun design for strapless riding and aerials?

By recessed do you mean that the top of the board is sunken/depressed below the top of the rails?

Yes! Here is another photo. I like the thinness of the board too!

Just switched to the Lib Tech Waterboard after riding traditional poly surfboards and epoxy kitesurf boards for years. I went with the Vert series, 5' 10", which is the more traditional shape and carries more rocker throughout. Nice slashy shape. Traveled to Maui and rode waves for 2 weeks. Not a ding, scratch or heel dent on the board after the trip. The depression on the top took a session or 2 to get used to. I really like the ability to move the fins forward and back in the fin box. It actually does make a difference in the feel of the board. I'm super excited of the hopes of having a board that will last more than a single season! The price point of the board is nice too. Under $700 for a board with fins. Difficult to find with the kite brand surfboards.

I was thinking of the same thing. I don't think they make them that big though. I'd check for an Underground board too. They made those for a while. F-One has some different decks too. I know Pepi at 2nd wind has that DV8 for demo.

I know he is planning on making a 6'2 for the new up coming model year.
Got to ride the proto not to long ago. Was definitely a cool board.
I prefer a traditional surfboard but it was fun to ride

We definitely have a DV8's for demo and for sale at the shop.
The DV8 is a bit different than the Misfish, in that it is a lot easier to ride and much slashier, plus easy to ride in high wind conditons or in bigger river swell.
The Misfish was (for me) a bit more of a lighter wind flatwater/skimmy style of board. Never really got that dialed on mine when I had one (even played around with different fin options).
Let me know if you ever want to take out our demo.

I ride a Dv8 a lot. I have only used it in the Gorge so can't comment on how it would work on good ocean waves. It is an awesome board for riding swell and riding around in the river. I have jumped it higher than I have felt comfortable and it has held up to some very hard landings. I have run it up onto rock beds in shallow water and there is no damage except some little fin scratches. I do prefer to ride it strapless because the back strap is a little forward for my preference. This is not an issue most of the time, but when overpowered it is hard to stomp the tail with my back foot in the strap. Try one and see what you think. I know 2nd Wind has them for demo and in stock.

Great options! Thanks a lot for the responses! I am thinking about a dv8 if its a 6'2" or one of the lib tech boards. I am worried about where my foot would be on the lib. Seems like the hollowed out section might be too far back for my front foot to sit in the hollow. Any demo options on a lib board?

The libtechs are definitely cool boards- would love to kite one- only been able to hold them and make a couple drops surfing one. Lots of potential in them. Not sure the concave in the deck is as deep as your looking for... great for surfing since its right under your chest/ribs and good for locking your front foot in but yea its not super deep.
I am still unclear on what the deal is with repairs for them... I have asked around and gotten mixed reviews on repairing them. Some say no big deal use epoxy other says once its dinged your screwed. I worry mostly about rock hits / busted fin boxes / and harness nicks and something that is easily repaired with sun cure or the epoxy variant is much nicer then something that needs more work

The only problem I could find regarding the lib tech boards was some of them breaking right at the front foot and warranty doesn't cover damage from kiting but don't quote me on that. Today I through down for a 6'1" dv8:)
Too bad I can't ride it for two more months.
Recovering from a broken fibula:(
