I'm going to Mancora and was wondering if anyone had stayed at the hotels south of the point. I'm considering the Claro De Luna Hotel. I was hoping to hear back from someone who has been there if the wind is such that one can kite directly off the beach in that area. I believe that the beach is Pocitas Beach. I'm a bit concerned about some of the negative reviews about Samana Chakra which was my original first choice. Love to hear of any first hand experience. Thanks.

I will second the recomendation for Samana Chakra.
The rooms are awesome there and the food and drinks are amazing.
You can kite right from their beach if you want but its mainly shore break and chop.
Your best bet is to get a car and drive South to the wave spots.

Staying south of the town of Mancora would mean the hotels south of the fishing boat moorages which is a nice beach for walking, but not so good for swimming, surfing or kiting as it is a mix of sand and rocks. Best kiting in Mancora is from the surf spot (the point) and up to the north for about a mile. The beach north of the point is pure sand with easy launching and landing. Samana Chakra hotel is right in that area and definitely has the best accomodations in town for kiting, food, lodging, yoga, etc. The local kite instructors operate out of the hotel and it is a good place to hook up with other kiters for side trips to the other kiting spots. Hey Snowy Creek! i will disclose right off the bat that i am the owner of Samana Charka..but please please dont let this sway your decision of where to stay..i will just help guide you in a great decision!!! i will say also, being in the hospitality business is harsh at times...the reviews are nuts! and people use reviews for various degrees of input..some to put an honest experience of enjoyment or not, some use it to an advantage for personal gain..we are a small boutique business that is run on personal experience and helping others have a great experience in their stay in north Peru! So that being said! here we go..if you want a place to kite in and kite out of right out front you have a few choices at various prices and various comfort levels..Las Olas on the point is great! Gustavo and Migali are our deepest friends and they have a great place that is comfortable..there can be some late night noise there as it is close to the bar scene..but to be honest there is at time late night noise everywhere in Mancora! next to las olas is Wawa's this is more of a hostel type set up..but inexpensive!!! next to that you do have Loki..which is a backpacker hostel..i would recomend that if you want to party until the sun shines and then get some rest and then kite...or surf...or whatever! there are a few others in mancora on the beach..let me know and i will give you the low down. Kimbas is great also!! Kimba himself is an amazing person!! super soulful and a pioneer of surfing in the north. his place is not on the beach but you can walk it to the river mouth to launch right at mancora point..if you end up in las pocitas i would look at Casa de Playa..this is a great option..but you will have to drive a dirt road into and out of town and to the surf and launch everyday..There really is not place to launch in las pocitas until you get to vichayito which is way way way down! As for our place..we are close to town and the point..about a 400 meter walk to the point to surf and it takes about 1 to 2 tacks to get to the point to kite if you launch off the beach out front (depending how comfortable you are going out to sea!). Right now we have at least 1 yoga class a day in out yoga shala. Some days we have 2 depending on the resident teacher or teachers.
ok, enough of the accommodations! if you wish also..i can help with a guide set up to show you the spots...Mancora is great! but it is great to get out of Mancora also...one..to see more and kite more..and 2..if there is no or light wind in Mancora there is wind somewhere! trust me on this!! so let me know on that...
OK!! that is it..i dont know where you live..but we live here in Hood River as in Peru! IF you want to meet in person i can share more to make your trip amazing...reach out with a PM..
Windian Mike!! thanks for the great words!!! hope to see you soon at your secret spot! or come back to peru!!
Steve, see you in MEX!!!!
Gman..of course i have to attach the photo of you at Cabo B from your trip to Peru!
