				| Thu Aug 08, 13 9:07 pm    Ft. Stevens Lot D - On NW days?? | |
				|
 |
				| Was just scoping out Lot D on the North Side (River)....tonight...anyone kite this side on NW days?
Anything to be wary of if a person stays in close...behind (East) of the protected point.

I know most people just hit the ocean side and downwind but I figured it's a decent flat-water spot.

 Thanks
 ROCK ON!!

				| I did that once last fall, on an incoming tide. There was a really strong current all along the east side, same direction as the wind. Made it tough to stay upwind. Might not be so bad in the lagoon. It wasn't all that flat, anyway.
I wouldn't try it on an outgoing tide...

				| i've kited where the white water is just north of the jetty in that wind. pretty mellow rollers and shallow sandy water. don't think the current has as much influence there | |

				| I have kited there on an incoming tide and its pretty onshore with some strange chop. I think a slack or outgoing tide might be better but you wouldn't want to break down or, next stop, Japan. I personally think the ocean side is much more friendly and a whole lot better on a NW. | |

				| Related to this topic, where is a good flat water spot in the Astoria area? I will be staying there this weekend and hope to sneak away for a few hours. My skill level is not quite up to the point where the ocean is an option because i don't stay upwind and starboard water starts are problematic. What about lot b? Or, am i better off hitting jones? Thanks in advance.

Feed a whole crew lots of beans the night before you want to go kiting. The next day, have them stand upwind from your launch and in unison, have them fart. Why?

Because that's the only wind your going to get on the Northern coast this weekend. The wind this weekend is going to be basically nill.

Jones beach might have a shot. Look at the "spots" link above on this page for details.

With stronger NW winds, there are a few spots on the Washington side around the mouth of the Columbia (Ilwaco area. Try a database search and use "Norby's" for a key word). I've never done it because if it's blowing NW, I'm in the ocean and riding the waves!

				| Jasonious, bring a big kite and play around in Chinook (PM sent). I keep my SUP ready for the non-wind times...

Thanks Squach for the NORBY search...It's basically in my front yard...
Is Scott still around these parts?

From the other day: (Small beach with a few launch/land hazards)
Public approach is at the yellow house on Olsen Rd.

Fence post, fence post, fence post...DRIFTWOOD.....LOL
