Going to winchester bay and florence next week with my teens to atv on the dunes. Heard there was some kiting down that way and looking for suggestions. Bought my first surf board this week and have been riding twin tips for a few sessions. Not pro but can ride and have fun. Lakes, beaches? Any input would be appreciated. Ill be there thurs thru saturday.

south jetty is the only spot to kite in florence.
great place to ride ocean waves but a horrible place for wives and kids to hang out.
the jetty gets blasted by wind and there's no escape from the cold and blowing sand.
it's advanced ocean kiting, not beginner friendly.
you'll need 5 mil wetsuit, hood, and booties.

Might have fun driving down to flora's lake for the day. I can't remember how far it was but it's nice and usually pretty mellow

south jetty just past the atv area all the way to the end of the same road
hide the kids and wife on the lee ward side of the jetty to escape wind
this time of year is a mixed bag could be big waves and big winds or not
sharks and whales add to the fun
you can do six mile down winders to quad area then another six in the quad area and have family grab ya
enjoy

fun place to ride quads ect
good eats in town

coos area has good quadin too but winds a little weird
may have to fight for waves

Headed to the South Jetty for the first time this weekend. Is there room in the parking lot if I have a small travel trailer for the family to hang out in? I assume that road is in good shape. Also, on a down winder, can you stop at any point, or only specific locations to walk back up to the road?
We're going there for a race my wife is doing, and hoping for some bonus wind time.
Thanks.

Spent one day on the lake. No wind the rest of our stay. Put my kids in a windsurf lesson with Will (great guy to work with!) and kited a couple of hours. Hanks for the suggestion! I will be back! It was tons of fun!

If you go down there again, a great wave spot that's pretty user friendly is Whiskey Run. Great downwinders and you can drive on the beach with a 4x4. Just North of Bandon. You could actually kite from Whiskey Run all the way to Bandon if you wanted.

not since bandon dunes closed it off, I guess it ran through the property for their latest course. no more beach access
