Any suggestions where I should stay with the family and still be able to kite from a condo? Thanks.

Maybe from the Maui Sunset, if it's Kona winds. But that shit sucks. Go surfing/SUPing, or snorkeling instead.

Disagree it does not suck. Last time I had a blast with the konas and did a little downwinder from the wailea area to past the city park and it was fun. 12 meter winds with a few locals and no crowds. Also launched from the park just passed the roller hockey court and had a sweet time. Warm water and whales to play around. How could that be bad:-)??? It may not be kite beach but who cares when u have wind and warm water and u r from the cold rainy PNW!!

Thanks for the ideas. Might also think about Kailua.

Maui Sunset condos... It's right at the park where people kite if they kite Kihei. I would say its doable 75% of the days that its kite able on the north shore. It works on NE wind too don't need Konas though they are much less gusty

It's flat / choppy most of the time, not as many waves. The reef gets really shallow during low tide so becareful of that and you need to be able to stay upwind.

I would still rather ride north side of island but its nice to have the option to ride right there if your time is limited. In general Maui Sunset is perfect for families and very affordable.

Oh yeah Kailua... I haven't been there in years but it is a nice kite beach. Flat water areas and waves.

The advantage of staying there is you would be on Oahu's main kite beach, whereas in Kihei you are at Maui's secondary (not as great) kite beach. The only problem might be the cost. Also winds on Oahu are not generally as strong as Maui, but it is a great place to ride when conditions are good.

Kailua is an amazing place but keep in mind that it gets quite a bit of rain, especially compared to Kihei which is basically a desert. This is especially important to consider if you are going in the next couple months because it's the wet season.
