Sounds like I heard this before somewhere about a year ago? Still same mushy peak, crazy big though.

I am sure it is the perspective - but that huge wave looks awful close to the structure. How that wave not destroy that building? If that wave is just building fast and doing a quick shore break thing - how does he even have time to ride a wave that big before it comes crashing down?

I heard the phone interview with him and it appeared as if he was very scared of getting killed on the rocks and it sounded as if he came very close!!!!

For the record, we asked Billabong XXL contest director Bill Sharp how one can accurately measure a wave that doesn't break. He replied, "Good question."

Well, when I rode waves from a big swell that didn't break top to bottom, i called it by the height of the steep part, ie 3 foot (on top of another 3-6 feet of gentle slope...) for McNamara i guess it would be like 30 feet on top of whatever then?
Still beating regular kooks by 10X, but hey he had a ski too Laughing

When you use zoom with a camera, there's an illusion that the space between objects is compressed.

Measuring waves is a tricky business. Our favored wave measuring scale of:

Flat
Ankle tapper
Knee high
Waist high
Shoulder high
Head high
Overhead
Head and a bit
Double overhead
Triple overhead
Bloody big
Mahooosive
APOCALYPSE
