Wed Sep 26, 12 9:30 am Seattle wind and spots in Fall, Where to kite? |
|
|
Hey everyone,
There has been some talk about bringing the 2013 F-one gear to seattle area for all of you North Washington riders to play with but I have never kited in the Seattle or other North locations before and I have no idea what spots are good for Fall and also what would be a good place to hold the DEMO at??
Any input or thoughts would be great. Need a area with some good space to set up and not a advanced type launch area as well, be friendly for everyone. Also winds of 18 or more is also a plus.
So if you dont mind, fill me in a bit and I will try to come to you with a ton of new toys.....
What about Westport or Ocean Shores? Would anyone come from Seattle or Everett area to theses two spots? I've surfed them for 20 years but have yet to kite there.
Thanks

Mags is a great spot because you can drive right up to the launch and it is central to the PS kiting population. There is a lot of grass area to set up kites too. Anyone with intermediate kite skills can launch there after a 1 minute lesson on how to get on and off the beach. Some girly men (jk guys say it is an "advanced" launch. I say you just need to keep your composure and you will be fine.
If the wind is strong and S-ESE it is a good place to launch. I have never ripped a kite there.
With the same winds you could also hit Double Bluff, but, that adds a ferry ride and can be a tight launch at high tide. On a loooow tide there are a few acres to launch from and flat water. |

Yeah I was mostly kidding. The one time I went to mags the wind sucked but I know it's killer when the wind is good. |

Fall kiting in Seattle is mostly Southerlies
* Magnusson Park. (Lake Washington) Launch is a little sketchy just because the wind rotors there a bit. Keep calm and you'll be fine, S, SE is best. Not really a beginner spot, would be ok for a demo
* Richmond Beach.(North Seattle) SW is good. Not really a beginner spot would be ok for a demo
* Lowman Beach (West Seattle) SW is good but a little bit of a low tide is helpful. Not really a beginner spot would be ok for a demo
* Golden Gardens (Seattle) SW is good, Not really a beginner spot would be ok for a demo
* Double Bluff (Whidbey Island not Seattle but 30 minute drive and then a Ferry Ride and then 15 minute drive) SE, or S. As soon as it goes SW...done. When DB is on...it is my favorite Seattle area spot. Can be a beginner spot would be ok for a demo
* Iverson (Stanwood) SE or S. Can be a good alternative to riding the ferry to DB. Flatwater but cold since it is at the mouth of the Snohomish River with all the run off from the mountains. Maybe the best beginner spot in Fall would be ok for a demo
* Juanita Bay (Kirkland) S, SW works. On shore wind that can nuke here. would be ok for a demo
* Bellingham (1.5 hours North) Locust Beach SW, or S. See Bellingham Kiteboarding for more info and other spots. Locust is a GREAT beginner spot.
On the rare Northerlies
* Alki. It will be lighter on shore but better once you out. It is an on-shore wind so this is more of an intermediate launch and you have to be able to go up wind
* Golden Gardens. You have to be able to stay upwind if you ride here on a Northerly. |
