Kiteboarding Magazine, cancelled??

So I get a transworld SURFING magazine in the mail with a note that Kiteboarding Magazine has been discontinued. Any one has inside info on what's happening? I liked the mag with all the cool articles and pix of local NW kite heroes!

Yeah, it died the digital death along with its windsurfing counter-part. There's some thread on i-windsurf about it but long story short is the magazine is no more, and transworld surf is your "so sorry, but..." replacement.

You'll have to wade through the geriatric vitriol to possibly glean some useful information... I think the general gist of it though is that subscribers are getting Transworld Surf as a replacement, end of story. But I could be wrong.... maybe someone else knows the specifics...

From what we have heard is this :
Not enough advertisers+not enough subscribers+a down economy= Bonnier Publications having to start cutting it's less profitable magazines.

Both of these magazines have to supply a certain amount of issues and distribution channels in order to exist and as a result require a certain level of subscribers and advertisers to maintain at this set level. It is one of the hardships of being a part of a larger publication corporation.

Hopefully since our other kite mags are either non-us based or have less stringent distribution requirements, they will continue on and not face any similar situation.

Only one US based kite magazine left now, but still have Kiteboard and Kiteworld. Word on the street is that Stance is making a comeback (only the OG's will probably remember Stance Wink

and Kitegirl magazine is attempting to make some international growth this next year as well.

Keep trying, buying and flying kites. It's truly what keeps the industry wheel spinning.

Thanks. Completely bummed that the Mag is gone. Truly was one of my favorite magazines with great articles and pix always. Thanks Aaron and staff for years of great work.

I was wondering why I suddenly started getting a surfing mag. Needless to say, won't be renewing that subscription (Not that there's anything wrong with it, I'm just too lazy to paddle out anymore).

as well as multiple hours worth of video's from '98 and '99 of Laurent, Salles and probably Pendle (sp?)
from Cape Verde and elsewhere. Don't have a VC machine anymore tho...........

The Kiteboarder is now the only US-based magazine and is independent with staff in California, Florida and soon North Carolina/Massachusetts area. If you want to see us, SBC and Kite World all continue and get better and the industry grow, get a subscription, attend events and support your local retailers:-) I still think print is very viable for niche publications and there is something about reading and holding a magazine and the imagery within that no ipad or computer screen can compare to.

I called their subscription number told them I didn't want the surf mag. 2 minutes to verify who I was. I got a prorated check two weeks later. Good service.
