Has anyone kited at Laie ? Someone told me its the secret spot, does anyone have the scoop ? I grew up on Oahu but have not kited there yet. I was told the launch at the beach park is good, just looking for any further info. Any other good spots on the windward side that I should consider other than Kailua and Mokuleia ? |

When I lived on Oahu, we would drive all around the eastside on the Kam hwy looking for spots that looked good for kiting. the park at Malaekahana near goat island looked like a good spot if the forecast is right. I know some people kite out and around the island, which is kind of a "secret spot," but has a few locals who go there regularly. also, if you can get a boat, K-bay is awesome flat water, but i dont know if the MCB frowns upon kiting there. _________________ I see rainbows: LiveAloha.

Been Kiting in Malaekahana Bay on the Laie side of Goat island for a few years now while on vacation. If the trades produce, it can be super fun, add some swell and it can be really fun. I'm usually kiting alone, but on ocasion some of the locals come out an play. Launch from the sand bar on the south side point across from goat island, but be aware of the shallow reef at low tide. |

Like what Ringorama said. You park near or at Hukilau Beach park, walk to the beach turn right and walk a few hundred yards towards the South Point to launch and ride straight across towards Goat Island. You want to stay away from the beach area near Hukilau Park, as the locals don't take to kindly to you flying your kite into their family's beach activities. Works best when the wind is real East and Mokuleia is more flukey. It's a really nice part of the island. |
