How are the kiting conditions in Hood River during the month of May? as windy as later summer months? temperature, etc?

That is when it typically starts to get consistent around here. Water is still pretty damn cold though..

May is generally pretty good. I wouldn't say as good as July and August - those months are generally pretty money (unless we get 100 degree plus weather - and that kills our beautiful wind).
The water is cold - but completely doable. In May I am in a 5/3 and booties - but no gloves. (I probably bundle up more than most - I am not very tolerant of the cold)

With the low snowpack so far, there may not be as much runoff. The water may be a little warmer. At least it might not be melted snow flowing into the Columbia from Hood River. It makes the immediate water around the sandbar like ice water. Also not as much current and floating debris. The Corps might hold back more water.
But then it could also rain a lot this spring.

| Check with locals before hitting the water in May sometimes there are some weird currents by the mouth of the Hood River you should be aware of before heading out.
