Mon Nov 03, 08 7:08 pm So cal kiting. |

I can't find the so cal kite size message on here.....it disappeared?
But I forgot to mention another spot I kited there.
When I lived in San Diego I used to go out to the Salton Sea to kite.
2 hrs east of San Diego.
A HUGE sea.
Everyone said it was polluted because thousands of dead fish wash up on the shore every spring.
But that is because of the rivers filling the sea (salt sea) with fresh water.
The salinity changes too fast and the talapia in the sea die by the thousands.
BUT...the sea is WINDY...very windy.
And you can go from one side of the sea to the other in a couple hour drive.
So any wind direction.
I used to kite at Bombay Beach.
And a few other locations.
One location even had a barnacle reef where little 2 foot windswell would break.
It's windy all winter long when high pressure moves in.
A marine biologist who lives there full time kites and windsurfs in it daily.
He says the 'pollution myth' is VERY much a myth.
It's like baja...desolate...hot...windy. |

I know of a few more here in my area.
But I have to keep those under wraps for now. |

Kiting in So Cal may not be all that bad after all
There's a bunch of other man-made reservoirs (Big Bear Lake, Demonigoni(sp?), Castaic, Silverwood Lake); perhaps some of them will be kitable as well. |
