Just started on Cedar Strip Kiteboard -
I understand they are a sweet ride 
The construction is made of a spline and ribs with cedar strips laminated over.
Glassed with Epoxy and top-coated. Pretty sure it's going to be in there "weight wise".
My Kayak Project:
Completed a Cedar strip Kayak this winter that is just under 16' and weighs 33lbs finished. It's a nice boat to paddle; light to carry and responsive.
I'll post some build pictures of the board as I'm underway now.

Very cool! I really like that Kayak; you obviously are damn good at this. 
Will you fill the interior of the board with some kind of light foam? Can't wait to see the finished product... Any chance you might post some photos of the work in progress?

First of all thank you for the compliments!
I did quite a bit of research before I took on the project. Wood strip boats are surprising strong and can turn out just as light as a high-tech composite built boats, and usually wind up being lighter than Fiberglass w/gel-coat. It comes down to design, density of the wood strip (mill thickness) and glassing techniques.
The strip method allows complex curves to be created and formed. Each strip is beveled so they are seamless around a radius and the width is thin enough to follow the ribs.
It is not a “kit” though I’m pretty sure they are available. (just google it)
Twin-Fin; you know me better than that! 
If I’ve done a good job at planning it should be plenty strong. Laying out the ribs correctly and enough of them in key locations should help for sure.
Nak I’ve been considering foam in some area’s; not really sure at this time. 
Blowhard; Yeah I told my wife I’m out in the shop building furniture! Ha………(no stich-n-glue; already done that)

Nice kayak.
You might want foam (closed cell) in your board just to limit air expansion.
I had a hollow Doyle windsurfer (w/ vent) and it would build up a lot of internal pressure on hot days (and during altitude changes).

I'm thinking liquid foam in key foot areas
