I think that gives you more power because now you have two posts, which like two skins makes you more powerful. Like WonderTwins. |

WOW thanks kurt all of our collective knowledge on this forum has been overlooking the foil as the best kite for everything. Go get some.
After a few years of kiting on the water , only then would I personally recommend flying a foil over the water. If you are a good pilot maybe you could make it safe and reliable in current and waves. A newbie or kook would struggle with a foil for massive amounts of relaunching in the drink.
way to read and believe the ozone ,flysurfer or peter lynn sites...... Al good kites for the right person on the water or greeeaat for on the land.
put a foil in the water for 30 seconds vs, a rev and see which one can relaunch easier.

I have a ton of 4-line foils, both sheetable and not. There are a lot of advantages to foils that work for them on the land and a lot of disadvantages to foils when you use them on the water.
I *wish* foils worked better for use on the water because they are more efficient, way easier and quicker to set up and take down, no pump required, and they pack smaller and lighter too.
If you want to fly foils on the water, go for it, but I'm convinced that inflatables are the best choice for use on the water.
Also I'd have to especially agree with Kataku on your item #4. That's a goofy explanation at best. Foil's make more power for their size than inflatables because they are airfoil (wing) shaped when they are flying and that contributes to the power they make. That's why they are called foils. _________________ Lets FLY |

When you go down to the spit you will see all kinds of people at all different levels riding all kinds of gear. No one really says sh*t about the other guys kites - unless you are riding a pink kite, and then its open season just kidding man. _________________ Still rockin gojos, *ssless chaps, and ankle weights! |

yeah what the fuck dude? Your douche bag foil newb buddy calls my shit out directly with his "your avatar makes my daughter have my pretty pony nightmares" and I make one dig on his foil and now you come riding your high horse into the arena to make personal attacks on my like I am leading some foil bashing campaign.
foils are good for somethings and yes, they can be used on the water. This topic has been hashed over many a time on different forums. I have seen people tearing it up on foils, I have also seen people being swimming allot on watched foils backstall into rocks, trees, shrubs, parking lots. We also witnessed your foil champion float all the way from the family beach to the newb hangout at sauvie.
Just answer me this, of the 1,000 of kites that are on the water in any given weekend, why are only about 3 of them foils? Hmmmm, it is kind of weird since all the pro riders are absolutely ripping it up on foils. I know what it is, somehow you and your friend know something that everyone else doesn't. I don't know who you are by I have a feeling that you are the guy who was out at Sauvie when I nabbed first day out there. You were the guy who couldn't get the board on his feet and then got out of the water after 5 minutes saying it was too cold.
Anytime you want to have a little t2 -vs- foil lightwind showdown you just let me know.
And to think on the way to work I was thinking, man the forum has sure been piss and vinegar lately cause there is not wind, we need a good "lets get some this weekend" post. Well I'm going to candy fucking mountain and the wind and swell reports look good. So bring out your foil to the coast and lets see it.

Yeah, I saw that coming a mile away.
Monkey is right - we do need to get some wind so we can stop discussing foils and penisacorns. _________________ Still rockin gojos, *ssless chaps, and ankle weights! |

True on #4 Kataku. Me thinks Curt is a little uninformed on that one.
Also, you have a good point, one I never even concidered. It is true that the foil provides more lift for loftier, lengthier jumps, but what about the super powered tricks?
I have both types, big Cs and a foil. I guess for me at 45, the lift seems more attractive. And for most Sauvie days, a light wind, mucho lift, upwind, speed kite is what I think I prefer. At least for now. And if there is any wind at all, I can relaunch quickly, both leading edge down or trailing edge down, which I really like.
Good point on newbies and foils. Probably not a great idea.
Also, one thing to remember, all foils are not the same. Many different designs for many different styles and needs. _________________ (>====<|> ---< |

Actually, Monkster,
Hmmmm. Douche bag foil newb? Does that mean I'm full of sweet smelling cleansing liquid?
That was my son. He kind of got pissed that his daddy was being attacked. And just like little Nemo, he thinks he knows a lot about a lot of things. I think he was just coming to my rescue. You gotta love the love, you know? He's actually a pretty neat kid and you can even ask Stringer. And if Stringer thinks he's cool, I bet you will too when you meet this summer at Sauvie.
And about the coast. Truth be known, that badboy still kind of freaks me out. The only time I really got out into it was cold and foggy out. As soon as I get the kahunas for it, I might take you up on that.
Now lets get our undies unbunched and carry on. What say you? Cool?
Love and grooviness

For the record, my undies aren't bunched up. I dish plenty of smack out and I can also take quite a bit of prodding and poking fun. Typically though, the people doing the dishing are people that I know.
I think if you and your offspring would stop grabing my underwear, smearing it through the shit and then waving it around on the forum, there would be a whole lot more hugs and kisses.
Do you see other people openly attacking others on the forum? Do you see people starting threads calling other members out...with there name in the tittle? You ever hear of a PM? Finally, do you know anyone named blowmeakiss? |
