I was on my 8 BEST Nemesis getting punched and t-bagged on the gusts and working my ass off on the lows. Not much range or forgiveness from the C-kite. I started with the Spleen, but was overpowered and couldn't keep the Spleen in the water on the upwind and downwind nose dives were comical so I swapped out to the BEST float. But then I had to do 5-6 tacks to make the bridge. The kite dropped out of the sky 2 times at the upwind buoy and I did 2 without-the-board 360's screaming in the monster waves in the middle. Then, there were the sailboats to dodge.

I got lots of energy from the crowd and riders: high-fives from Phil and the buoy girls. Alex kept rubbing it in every time he lapped me. Grom took the Spleen and was no-where to be found when I considered going back to it. Paul Porter popped an over the pencil buoy handle pass almost over me for entertainment. Oops and sorry to the girl whose kite collided with mine at the no-wind buoy. Glad we got them separated. Holly and Mary Beth kept the pressure up in the women’s race. Mary Beth went in disguise on a second kite and tortured me looking for her all afternoon.

Wow, what an awesome day, event, and cause. Big kudos to all the riders and 7 hr. club. Thanks everyone! Thanks to the windsurfers who gave up their beach too.

Suggests:
1). Let's move the upwind buoy out from behind the island even a little as there was no wind there.
2). Let's have a spot where they hand out water like they do at running marathons. Chug, throw, and go.

You want as little resistance as possible... Maybe you could make a surfboard with less resistance than the glide, but it probably wouldn't be able to surf waves anymore

Hmm, thats a clever idea...You know, those wakesurfer's have really sharp rails...and are pretty flat over-all...I bet the woudl drive-upwind.

Very Happy

You know what else....I bet a skim would have killed it!! Plus you can ride them backwards, and tack like on a twin-tip. Very Happy

the fuse and my 7m got me to the bridge in 1 tack, but I have the stock footpads on it, and my feet were killing me about 5 laps in, so I switched to my little LF Drop. Then, it took about 4 tacks to get to the bridge... maybe more... but my feet felt GOOD! Wink

Carol,
I had my buddy miguel kite out there during the derby and he brought me a redbull and a clif bar. handoff for the clif bar was perfect but the redbull toss took me off guard and sank before I could retrieve it.
It's great to have friends that come to support like that.
Thanks Mike!
I used a 10m bull and a small twintip but should of went to the glide. I figured the chop would have killed me on the glide pearling the nose.
