Just so you know, that wasn't me.
Did you see that dude fly up into and over our kites and through all those weekend sunbathers? _________________ (>====<|> ---< |

Maybe another reason not to hit SI on weekends, lots of civilians to run into.
Make sure if you see anyone endangering other people on the beach you call them out on it. Don't need to be a dick but definitely warn them about the dangers and potential bans. |

I was shocked when I saw this kook jumping on land with a fairly large foil (5 meter?) repeatedly over sunbathers, families, dogs, etc. on land near kiters launching and landing. I didn't know if I should be more scared for him or all of the people he was jumping over. Glad no one got hurt!
Not to be a whiner, but there were a lot of people learning to kite at SI yesterday and were body dragging right through all of the kiters launching and landing. Maybe there should be signage like that proposed at Stevenson. At one point a body dragger collided with a downed kite and lines were tangled. I was trying to come in and land and it was too much of a mess to go anywhere near there. I wonder what it would take to put a sign up with some safety suggestions. Sorry to rant, it was a great day on the water overall. |

man, there were a lot of kooks on saturday! Didn't see the foil guy though.
I say, leave the beginners be, unless they're being unsafe. There's so few places to learn in the gorge, and SI might be the least intimidating. i think it should just be first come, first serve at SI, though that view will likely be unpopular.
I don't mind kiting around the beginners. Honestly, the 'good kiters' have their kites down in the water a lot from failed tricks right in the 'kite beach' section, and we have to kite around them, too.
I don't mean this in a confrontational way. I just had fun watching this one beginner on Sat. She practiced getting up on her board for like two hours, and I only saw her kite hit the water once. It was really impressive. |

The guy with the 6M foil was one of my friends, Michael. He's one of the most skilled kiters I know, and he's used to kiting and riding in crowds of kiters, so I'd be surprised if he was actually getting in anyone's way when they were launching or landing. But if he was jumping sunbathers and families, then that isn't cool at all and I'll talk to him about that.
I did see him jumping down the beach at one point, but it looked to me like he was up higher on the beach where there weren't a bunch of people. _________________ Lets FLY |
