Yesterday afternoon I got a couple of calls from friends who where quite shaken up after witnessing an accident in Pacific City yesterday. Long story short: a kid who was learning to surf in the cove white water got his arm severed off when he was run over by a speeding Dory boat.

According to my friends, most of the boats were approaching the beach at a moderate speed and sounding their horns along the way. With a rapidly rising swell, the boats seemed to be anxious to get out of the water. The boat that ran over the kid was going way faster and not sounding any warning blasts.
Having surfed scores of good days in the PC cove, it would really suck if surfing was banned there. To me, this is another reminder that whenever a resource or location is shared for multiple purposes, everyone has to be aware of the others around them whether they are doing the same activity or not. Obviously, this applies just about everywhere that we launch kites.
Was anyone else at PC yesterday? Did you see what happened? Last edited by DrewB on Mon Jul 07, 08 8:14 am; edited 1 time in total |

| I was their sunday morning but did not see the accident. I was thinking that an accident was bound to happen the swell really picked up and their were tons of surfers most who should not haven been out. I am assuming that the dorys got out before the surf came up. With this size surf their is no way the dorys could see the surfers or the surfers the dorys And if I was driving a dory in, in surf like that I would be hauling ass and praying(I have a dory). This is a terrible accident and will need to cause some change(I am not sure what). |

Just terrible
- even in the river swell yesterday it was near impossible to see a windsurfer who was down, sail flat and head underwater just one swell downwind - had to cut superhard to keep from drilling him _________________ Go Deep!
