Hi NwKite fans, and Newbs and all others!!!!

Just a reminder that when you are going out or coming in at the spit, or wherever, make sure you look before you turn.

Tis the season and there are many lessons, newbs, and just people walking on the spit taking pics and watching.

Ton's of people are in HR and the kiting is crowded.

Here are some suggestions for staying safe;

1. Be aware of newbs taking lessons and give them some room. Look for bright helmets, and instructors with orange, or other bright colored shirts.

2. Be ready to yield, avoid, or get the hell out of the way if someone is not looking before steering the kite.

3. Take turns at the bridge! Treat the break like a surfing line. The guy in the break coming back on starboard reach carving it up has the wave. let em ride.

4. When approaching somebody coming off the spit attempting to get up wind fast, let em.

5. Raise or lower your kite to indicate your intention of going up or down of a kiter.

6. Avoid getting too close to other riders if possible.

7. Indicate intent by pointing and raising or lowering kite.

Here is a really great site with a wealth of good information on kiteboarding basics!!

So..Spike,
Do you have any witty things to add to this post? Maybe contribute some of your knowledge of the Stevenson site?

It's all good in da Hood.

Everybody knows these rules. Posting them on here doesn't make people abide by them any better.

I prefer to ride through all the crowds, students, newbs, and people at the bridge. Then I ride over to my friends and kook out by having our kites mate for a few seconds. Finally, I ride over to the slider and kicker which has a nice rotation set up and try to jump OVER them, making sure to wipe out and block the rotation for at least a few minutes. As you can see I also have trouble covering my knees. Any tips would be greatly appreciated!

You are such a good speller. Thanks for pointing that error out to me. It's good to know that you are there at work watching the spelling mistakes, posting style, and various other stuff you do. You do it welll.

I'm sure that there are many people who read these posts and see the gaps in culture from the spit to the event site.

Laughing

Thanks for the new lable brah!

Later

I wonder how many newbs don't ask questions on the post due to the culture of hazing that exists.
Very interesting to see real comments and good posts mixed with stuff from other sources.

Funny how you were the first one to respond Spike; Yes, most of us know the rules, but I'm sure they were re-posted just for you spook... Heed them before someone forces you to eat a sand-sandwich...

Problem is that most newbs and many kiters in general probably don't check this forum too often.

I think there are quite a few lurkers out there. Hey Phill, any stats on how many people visit the site but don't post?

There are on average between 900-1100 unique visitors per day, many of those are from all over the world though.

86% of traffic is from U.S.
46% from Oregon
11% from Washington
17.13% from Portland
14.17% from Hood River

Its harder for me to determine lurker / poster ratio. I would guess though that only 5% of the viewers of the site are regular posters.

Below is a chart of the top 25 countries and number of visits in June.

WOW, that is some pretty interesting shit! Who would have thunk slovenia had so many kiters. Another question, do you think some of those are just bots? I can remember a time that early in the morning people would post viagra ads and shit in the classifieds.

At any rate, lots of lurkers.

It's from Google Analytics which runs as JS, so bots wouldn't usually load that stuff. Plus I think Analytics filters them anyway.

Doesn't include RSS, which is how I use the site 90% of the time, not sure about how many others do.
