We're missing you and Lynee at the beach. Hope to see you on the water soon. We're here for ya if you need anything and still here even if you don't need anything. 
And since someone posted we should ask questions, is beer and rum allowed on your new diet? If so, come on down and I'll mix/get ya a cold one! If not come on down and Lynee and I can drink yours!

Tom was at the beach today and let us know that he's been diagnosed with a rare and dangerous form of cancer. I've been in close touch with Tom and he is looking great and doing all he can to beat this thing into submission. He and his wife are on top of his diet, exercise regimen and treatment options. I know what Tommy wants is that we all just treat him as we normally do, as a fellow kiter and a friend. (not that an extra pat on the back wouldn't be appreciated). Cancer is a bad word and it often conjures up thoughts of pessimism and melancholy. When I feel this way around someone I usually just ask questions about their illness to get past it.......it helps me not to walk on eggshells and move on to a more constructive approach-Tom's attitude has made this easier for me. My wish is that we can all be supportive without being overwhelming....... .....I hope I said that right and it doesn't sound preachy. Best regards, Stephan B |
I totally agree... thanks for putting it in perspective. Hope I wasn't out of line... Just want Tom to know that we're all thinking of him and support him as a friend and a fellow kiter.

Thanks to all who posted comments....
Yes, having cancer is a bitch, or is it? I feel 100%. Playing ice hockey 2x week, kiting nearly every day. I think its a big hoax although my CT scan is tough to question.
Steve B is correct. I do want to be treated (or mistreated) as normal. Cancer is something I have, not who I am. (I stole that quote from a friend).
I really appreciate all your good thoughts. The kiting community in Stevenson is phenomenal. A big reason I show up each day is to see the people, kiting is secondary....
I met a young lady at a chemo session a couple weeks ago. She is 26, bald and beautiful. Of course, kiting came up and she is stoked to learn. It will be my mission to intro her to the sport. Those of you who know my skills are probably thinking she will be lucky to survive, but what the hell. I think kiting is a "pay it forward" sport. Lots of people helped me get started and I try to reciprocate.
One last cancer comment. At the chemo "sessions" I am usually middle of the road age wise (I am 4 . I am shocked at how many people much younger than I are treating. Cancer is an epidemic. I say this not to scare you but to help you appreciate the lives you have and to live each day. Anyone who knows me well would agree that I have ALWAYS lived this way. Play time has always been primary with me and work secondary..... With what is happening to me now, I am sooooo happy that I adopted this lifestyle.

Tom-
You are right, cancer is an epidemic. It effects babies who are born with cancer to adults who have lived for decades. I hope that this will help inspire everyone to go out and raise money for and to participate in Kiteboarding for cancer. We can help cure this disease and do what we love at the same time. Hope to see you there---
