Beginning to sound like a bunch of surfers...Lets see, unless you are an arrogant exhibisionist you dont belong anywhere except the shipping lane or upwind of Wells Island, next thing you know that will be off limits because the wind is too steady for everyone but you too. Seems to me regardless of whether you want to mow or throw down everyone has equal right to ride where they want as long as they have the skills to avoid injuring someone.

i think they're saying that everyone; mowers and hucksters alike, can ride there, but that it's helpful if people rotate through in order to share a limited resource. so, it sounds like you're in agreement, actually. Very Happy

I think a lot of the comments on this forum follow a similar to the stuff on youtube:

"Its impossible to say something so absurd that people actually think you're joking."

That is exactly what people are saying, nothing more nothing less so Ike, please don't go off on some tirade trying to make it sound like something it isn't. There are "rules" and guidelines for particular sports and kiteboarding is no exception.

If you think Stevenson is full of negative attitude then you obviously never kited there. What would happen to you if you paddled into the line up and a popular surf spot and just started sharking people and screwing up the line up? You would be calling triple A for a new set of tires. It's about getting along and spreading the knowledge about how things work at the popular spots, not about telling people not to kite somewhere.

I think maybe Ike is referencing this thread going 2 ways IMO.

Part 1: Stevenson launch...completely understood. Launch, get out of the way of the rotation and look around because of the limited launch space. If you want to ride in the rotation then respect it, but don't clog it. I also like mkyboys attitude to just boost and go downwind if he's coming upon a guy that doesn't have his skills.

Part 2: Lawmowers in the swell stay out. I call BS on that and Forrest brings up a good point...aren't we all kind of mowing the lawn by WS Bridge trying to perfect our timing for the Coast? Personally I love the sweet butter right next to the bridge so I'll "hog" sometimes but I try and respect the rotation because it does form. Howeve to say freestyle or wakestyle is for the Spit is telling me I can't ride my twin-tip and if I'm not strapless on a 6' Reef I can't play??? Say it ain't so fellas...between the Hatch and the Bridge is a HUGE playground...there is room for everyone. Mark next time you're out there I'm going to ride your ass to make sure your not mowing!!! The swell is for riding swell, I actually kind of think its kooky when I see people on twin-tips boost up there now (unless its really big of course) Very Happy

No just kidding, but really riding that smooth stuff is fun, and its even more fun if you are strapless on a skim or surfboard.

Completely agree...swell is for the swell and it's so congested now by the Bridge boosting is becoming a rare sight. I've got to get my timing, speed and power down before strapless or skim come. I've also found in that "general area" the swell is all over so I just find a quiet wave and play, mostyly during the weekends now.

Yes, my strapped surfboard arrives anyday but a new member with 1 post was making a very experienced statement "about showing how good you are so go Spit" that was not related to the Stevenson launch original thread and a CGKA Boardmember jumped right in to second that motion. I smell conspiracy to protect their own little slice of Heaven from us crappy lawnmowers. Surprised

I think we are all on the same page. The swell up by the bridge actually used to be a very popular place to boost around, now with the high current making killer swell up there, its hard to think about boosting. Also there's been a big surge in directionals making swell riding more popular.

When we were in Maui this winter, BamBam pointed out we should probably not boost in the wave riding area upwind of the beach. When everyone is in wave riding mode, they aren't really looking up to be impressed by someone's boost, and they probalby aren't going to get out of your way either. Did I heed his warning? Sorta, come on every once in awhile its fun to send it Very Happy

Point is, just be aware and keep a safe zone buffer around you. Keep your kite low when downwind of someone, kite high when upwind. Look around, don't fixate on one point in front of you or look at your kite all the time.

And if you see somebody riding a sick swell downwind, or loading up for a sweet move in some flat water, don't ruin their day by getting in the way. You will want the courtsey returned at some point I am sure.

Conspiracy theory's... Laughing

I was agreeing that the small section of swell near the bridge is very fun to "swell ride" on. There seems to be a rotation that naturaly forms there. That is to come in above and then pick a wave and ride it out. The rotation works well untill someone goes into the middle of it and goes back and forth. EVERYONE is welcome in my opinion to ride where ever they want. I was trying to help educate. Thats all. Sometimes newer riders get tunnel vision and dont see the rotation.

Ps if you want to follow me around thats cool. Can u pack some beer for me Wink
