hahahanhahaha, i love this forum, more pull == more enjoyment, but not too much pull diminshing returns and friction, it just keeps getting better
| pdxmonkeyboy wrote: | | Spike, I don't think you know what the hell your talking about on this one. |
that is what i was thinking from the effing get-go dont take it to personally spike we're just a bunch of light wind, small kite snobs BUT you still dont get it! at 155 lbs, you shouldn't even be thinking about buying a 15m Rev!
if you want some fun in light wind, get a strapless surfboard and learn how to ride it, jibe it, etc. Broaden your horizons and expand your skill set. I mean come on, is boosting 5 feet in the air really that fun? when you could be riding around slashing swell and not even worry about jumping? and actually the lighter wind is nicer for strapless riding because you dont get pulled off your board whilst trying to learn a great lightwind alternative!

Yeah Fabio, don't take it personally. I'm just bitchy b/c there is absolutely no wind, I am buried at the office and have to drive 5 hours to Federal Way,WA this week to attend a 1-hour meeting.
You should get on a surfboard though. I couldn't believe how much fun it is.

I say leave your skim and surfboards behind and get a big kite. |
Hey now!
Do you ride skim/surfboards regularly?
There's tons of fun to be had without "big boosting"
How much fun is said "boosting" in light winds?
I like to ride my big floaty old surfboard on my 06 11/13 fuels when there's barely enough wind to get the kite up.
Just keep the TT handy for when the wind comes up. (it always does at sauvies right? )
By the way, you're not allowed to make the above statement until you can skim like these homies.
http://www.nwkite.com/forums/t-8617.html
Also, relaunching a big kite sux (for the most part)
Dunes,
If you absolutely are going to get one of these, i'd get the 13.
Otherwise you might just be fine with the 11.
Option 3: skip the 13 and 15, buy another 11 and give it to me.

If I lived in SPI I'd probably have a 15m, they get a lot of 12-15mph days where a 15m might let you work on some wakestyle stuff.
If I lived on the Oregon Coast I'd have a 13m, it'd probably get you out with a bit more power on those light summer days. Good for downwinders.
But... In Portland/Gorge an 11m is a perfect "big kite" for me (170lbs.) Especially when combine with the skim, surf, or glide. The winds around here are almost always coming up, so by the time you rig a big kite its usually too windy. I see it happen all the time to people and they get punished out there.
Knowing how to get the most out of a smaller kite is a much better skill to learning how to plow around on an overpowered monster.
Spike - I will challenge you to a lightwind jump off once my ACL is restored.
Big kites do not equal big jumps.

I was out on Sat. in light wind I mean light 15 to 18 maybe and on a liquid force 136 older twin tip and I was having a blast. You are very light so you may want to consider the 11 as you will get more use out of it. But if you want to kite in really light conditions at your weight you may want the 13.

Oooo. Option #3 sounds like the right solution
Based on all the discussion, I'm going to get the 13M tonight. It sounds like I could probably get by with just the 11M, but I'm old and have money. My just-out-of-college age kid and my broke young climbing buddies who come kiting with me a lot can't afford kites yet, so having an 11 & 13M will be a good partial overlap.
Thanks for all the input.

and isn't phil on a waroo in that picture? or a war poo as spike likes to call them
i was also gonna say that you should be able to fly your T2 11m in anything from 10 knots to whitecaps. I seen Doyle out on a T3 9m and it was probably blowing 10-15 mph and he was staying upwind no problemo
man, no wind, rain and being bored at work today.....

| Dunes... what about a 9 and 13? Do you still have a small kite? The 9 Rev has the patented incredo-range system. More so than the 11m. 11 AND a 13 on a limited budget.....I dunno bro. Quite a bit of overlap. Maybe pick up Baluees 14m turbo 2 instead?

| Even if you guys were right I wouldn't admit it for a long time, since it would mean I wasted even more money. I have a surfboard, pretty beat up, lots of delamination, but its a pain to take with me, even at 6'2" its difficult to fit in my car.

I've already got the 11m and the insurance will buy me a new 13M and 9M, so I'm gonna end up with a tightly spaced quiver. Its all good. Like I said, I'm usually the equipment source for my kid and climbing buddies when we head out, so they'll all get used.

How do you get that high? I've gotten the pop pretty much down, and have gotten pretty high doing that (around 20ft) but what do you need to do to get that high?!
