One thing that I did not see on the list of tasks is volunteering some bed or floor space for visiting athletes and visiting volunteers.
I have 4 quests staying with me during the GG and can fit a couple more. Any other locals with extra space could offer up a place to crash to the visiting athletes and volunteers.
It would be greatly appreciated.
The Gorge Games is allowing athletes to camp in the vacant, gravel lot just south of the event site for, get this, $90 per night. |

Hello All,
I'm trying really hard to get whatever I can for the volunteers, and I've also asked the directors for a breakdown of what the athletes registration fees goes to. I'm trying to get food for athletes and volunteers, and also free parking for volunteers. And for camping out, well, I'm just being told about the Athlete's Village as well as the cascade travel who has other camping alternatives. I've also sent a note about fuzzy kids for the volunteers to see where they will be able to go. I need to ask about athletes not staying in the village where their's could go. I would assume if there is a space for volunteer pooches, the athletes pooches would be there to.
Anyhow, still a lot I am trying to work with the directors, but for right now, here's the scoop on Athlete's Village. Link:

WHAT ARE THE RESERVED SPOTS LIKE?
Everyone who reserves a spot will have either a 25’ X 30’ or 25’ X 40’. All reserved spots will be on a hard surface or gravel. While this is great for RV’s or people car-camping, you should be aware of this if you are planning on staying in a tent. The surface may not allow you to put in tent stakes so please keep this in mind when figuring out your shelter and sleeping requirements. There is a limited amount of the larger spots, please reserve as early as possible.
OK, I WANT TO RESERVE A SPOT, HOW MUCH WILL IT COST?
- 25’ X 30’ is $50.00 per night
- 25’ X 40’ is $75.00 per night.
Should you prefer a spot only on Friday or Saturday the cost is $90 per night, per space. The reason for this is the impact on services and to insure that Athletes needing to stay multiple nights have priority. If you arrive mid-week all spots are $50.00 per night, per space. |

| For those looking for cheap nearby lodging / camping, I'd look into Tucker park campground and Bingen Hostel. I guess its not as cool as being able to roll out of bed onto the event site, but a lot less $$$$ |

I'm curious about the parking situation for volunteers Janet, let us know when you can.
Also very curious about the registration fee breakdown and what the GG intends to give the volunteers who are generously volunteering their time when they could be riding! Food, T-shirts, gatorade, whatever--I couldn't find any info on the website when I looked. I'm not volunteering to "get" anything, but it would be nice to know if I need to bring my own hydration and lunch.
Transparency is always good, especially considering there has been some ill will in the past when it seemed that Octagon was trying to profit on the hard work of the volunteers. If they want this event to be sustainable, transparency and treating the volunteers as a valued asset and not free labor is super important.
Thanks for all the hard work, I wouldn't want your job! |

| Thanks LP. I totally hear you, and truly as soon as I have some answers I will certainly share. I did not receive a response as of today. So, I'll be sending yet another e-mail and placing calls next week. I need things to be more concrete as we have many volunteers traveling! |
