1) If you loan your kite out to someone, make sure they understand the "Rules of the Road":

a. The kiter on your right has the Right of Way. It's funny how that works, isn't it?

b. If someones kite is falling slowly from the sky, that means he has now power in it
and can not redirect it.

If you or a loved one is kiting and you come across a situation such as this, please redirect your kite and/or board to avoid running into someones kite, especially if it happens to be a foil, which needs to be relaunched quickly.

Also, learning how to kite should not take place in a large group of kiters. You place your safety and that of others at risk (not to mention ruining the rest of someones day on the water, or should I say off the water?)

I saw your foil getting caught in somebody's lines... how did that happen? was your kite drifting back in the window like you mentioned in your rules?

This sounds like typical Sauvies and could happen to anyone. While there are rules of right away, its hard to enforce them on beginners who have enough to worry about. Try to stay out of beginners way when at all possible. Defensive riding and be aware of whos around you. ALthough if you kite is falling out of the sky you are a sitting duck Confused

Yup. My foil got backwinded and I lost tension in my lines and was at the mercy of those around me. What pissed me off was that it was a very slow, pronounced, falling from the sky. One that Mr. Yellow Kite had plenty of time to realize and take evasive action from. The dude flew his lines right into my falling kite, instead of just going down wind a little, or better yet, jibing back out. I couldn't believe he did that. I quess we all make mistakes.

I agree with your sentiments wholeheartedly. Defensive kiting is the only way to go. Constant awareness of our surroundings. Always trying to avoid getting close to others. Yeah, I was a sitting duck. I was sure boze was going to avoid my kite.

Maybe he was experiencing River Euphoric Magnetism. The well-known disorder where a kiter is strangely pulled toward a kite with a negative power aspect. The electrons in the kiters brain cause temporary total paralization of all motor function within said kiters body, causing the inevitable non-positive fusion of said kiters flying lines, with the descending fabric of the attracting kite.

Oh well. I know what your thinking. "Get over it dude". I'll take that advice and just realize that not all kiters are dealing with a whole bag of fries.

I sprayed Tucker once or twice (maybe more). Chris wanted to boost into my kite which I had sitting a foot over his head. Then I hit Florian's giant 16m thing.

I would have to agree with that rule, that is if the foil causes REM disorder, of course. But remember, "Foils don't kill. Sealions do".

My son told me of your attempts. Glad you're O.K. I've often wanted to try it.

A sealion surfaced right in front me yesterday at Frenchman's bar. It was kinda surprising (to both of us I think - he dove back under pretty quick). I thought I would try to find him when he came back up so I looked around for a bit. I learned that sealions can hold their breath longer than my attention span.

Kiteboarder traveling to the right has right of way, not the kiter to your right.

There are many expections to the "Right of way" rule, one is that someone leaving the beach has right of way over someone coming into the beach.

That would be pretty haussenfeffin spectacular to see someone "ride around" a beginner, when that someone has lost power in his kite and is floating on the water. Wouldn't you say?

IMO I avoided everyone yesterday, coast was clear, attempted a trick for da Mrs and da kids, and then lost power when my transition bombed, and I became a floating duck.

How would you suggest I magically power up and ride around a beginner (a beginner who appeared not to be a beginner, but in control and that had plenty of time to redirect). This I gotta hear.
