The Gorge Games is back! One of the longest running kiteboarding events returns to to Columbia River Gorge this Summer 2008!
Athletes from across the globe will compete for medals and prize money totaling $10,000. This years Gorge Games will feature three kiteboarding disciplines at the Summer Games this July 17-20th in Hood River, Oregon - Freesyle, Big Air and Course Racing.
Freestyle will be a 100 percent focused on the highest level of technically difficult tricks that the sport has seen to date. Blending a variety wake boarding, skateboarding, and kiteboarding specific moves, freestyle is a fusion of maneuvers derived from other mainstream board sports and taken to the unique platform of kiteboarding. The Big Air discipline will highlight the ability of kiteboarders to perform huge jumps and be put center stage in one of the windiest spot on earth! The worlds best will be doing radical tricks as high in the air as possible with 70% of the execution judged on height, and 30% on technical difficulty. Old School, New School, Big Air is all about going huge and doing tricks as high as possible. Rounding out the event will be Course Racing- one of the fastest growing facets of the sport. With large racing fleets springing up all over the globe, there has already been mention of course racing as viable push to have kiteboarding included in the olympics.
This event of the world's best will offer an incredible show for spectators and it is sure to draw a huge crowd. Careco Multimedia Group will be covering the Games and producing three hours of live Gorge Games programming for FOX SPORTS and will be showcased in high definition and will be aired August 11-17th
In addition to Pro Men and Pro Women Divisions- the 2008 Summer Gorge Games will include an Outlaw Division for amateur riders and aspiring pros to compete in. "We are constantly striving to present kiteboarding and its disciplines at the Gorge Games to reflect the current state of kiteboarding as an action sport and to include not only the highest level riders, but also to include upcoming participants to gain experience and exposure in a competitive format," said David Tyburski, Gorge Games Kiteboarding Sports Director.

Just want to say that it was great to meet and see a lot of the NW Kite Crew at the Pub in HR this past Friday. I'll keep the NWkite forum posted with all "first in" news regarding the Games and athletes attending. Many of our local NW Kiter celebrities have already registered! See you on the water...

I'm in for the racing so far...!
I didn't register for the Big Air b/c it says it is at the same time as the Race...?? Is that an error..? Cause I think now I don't get the discounted rate if I register again...?
Someone else already has CHANSON as a user name...?? maybe some frenchies.??
It's gonna be a blast.

Thanks Chanson. FYI- No conflict as far as times go- only one discipline will be held at a time. You should go off the Schedule on the Kiteboarding page vs. the Registration page. Sorry for any confusion.
As far as the discount, for Outlaw, it is 40 bones for one discipline and $20 for each discipline after that-$65 for Pro + $20 for additional disciplines. I know that this is a bit conflicting with what it says on the Registration page, however you will be discounted and charged accordingly. (It was some format issue w/ the software.)
There is a blurb that reads:
"Note:Reduced registration fees will be offered in the registration process for those participating in multiple events."
Anyone with a different experience please let me know. Thx!
