Think about renter's or home owner's insurance.
Mine is probably 150/year, worth 7k (to cover kites, computers, and other climbing gear, i don't own much).
But thanks to that policy, when my kite got stolen off of my poarch recently, it was covered. Also, fire and water damage will be covered.

Something to consider. I'm sorry to hear about that. What a hassle. And it just sucks to be reminded that there are crappy people out there.

Had the cars in our driveway ransacked. Motion light probably help them see what they wanted. Got lucky on stuff stolen but just the amount of our deductible. Sucks to have those thief ghost flying about now which was once a nicer place. Place a large dog bowl and chain outside with a beware of dog sign .

So I'm at home on the weekend and I get up as my cat Max awakens me. I let Max out and then quickly realize, post wake daze, that my xbox360 is gone. It could have been worse, I think to myself, the hamburgler could have taken more.
On Sat. I took a trip to Fred's to price out the stuff I know is gone. The grand total is $960.

The results of this experience have taken me back to a time when I lived in a real city with real crime. I remember running down the street at 3am in the morning chasing a u-haul van with the back door open and a couple of thieves attempting to jump in after dropping a yard bench. My German Shepherd Comanche, 110lb male, was nipping at their quick moving heels. I was young and so was Comanche and it seemed like the right thing to do, but in retrospect it could have ended much worse.
I miss Comanche and the memory of him chasing those dudes brings a smile.

The real outcome of my home being burgled is a realization that nothing is really safe anymore. The idea that we lock our cars, houses, and identity is a precaution but anything is up for grabs. There are ghosts walking our streets who don't really give a crap and will take whatever they want if the opportunity presents. I'm going to do my best not be the guy who gives the opportunity to somebody, but what if somebody pulls a gun? Then what?

I'm glad that I live in the Northwest. If I still lived in the Southwest I'm sure that I would still be making my annual trip to the bike store to replace my 3rd stolen mountain bike. I would be careful of where I drive at night making sure to avoid the neighborhoods with know gang affiliations and car jacking joyriders. I don't miss the thought of parking my car outside a club and locking it tight knowing that it could be the last time I see it. I don't miss the daily news reporting another homicide down the street. And I especially don't miss losing another young student to gang violence, drive by bad luck, drug deal gone bad. After my 3rd student funeral I decided to move the great NW. 1999 was a Uhaul year and I wasn't chasing it!

It's spring in the great NW and my doors are locked and life is really good. Is this a kite boarding forum? Thanks

Twisted Evil

Man it is good do know that The Dalles P.D. is on the case. So many people rag on the cops for this and that, but when the chips are down they are your best friends! They are mine!!!!
This past weekend an arrest was made and stuff was found. Unfortunately, the really easy stuff to liquidate, like my beloved Xbox was not recovered and still probably being abused by some bonehead. Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Way to go! I hope that jackass "feel down the stairs" a few times at the station. I'm glad I'm not a cop, I'd be beating down perps left and right.

That sucks man I know how that feels but at least they caught the guy.

Our skateshop has been broken in four times in the last year. The last one was last friday night while I was four hours away dreaming of kiting the bay the next day in Lincoln City. My phone rings at 4:30am and it's my alam. Nothing stolen because the alarm scared them away but in the past I have lost about 7k worth of goods.

What really boils my blood is 75% sure I know who it is and I see the little meth monkeys friends wearing our stuff all over town but there is nothing I can do about it but be pissed. The cops havn't been much help. They have bigger fish to fry I guess. The hardest part for me is letting it go so I'm not seething with hate 24/7. I know I will really turn ugly if I dwell on it. So saturday I'm out there slashing around stoked thinking that I have it pretty good and this junkie punk who is going to spend his life in the gutter is hurting himself more than I could if I smacked him around. Although it would feel pretty good I'm sure.

You might check into a Lazershield system. Under $300 to get set up with one motion detector ond the alram unit + $20 a month for the service. You can add additional motion detectors for like $60 I believe. They are really easy to set up yourself. I have one in my shop. It's pretty cheap insurance if you have a lot of toys you want to keep around. I think Costco even has them.

I have mine set to phone me then the cops after the pre alarm goes off for 50 seonds but I'm going to put it on silent and reduce the lead time because a thief can dissapear in about 10. It would be so great to see someone arrested.

Bought a home security system for a very reasonable price. Given that we live in a highly foot traveled area in The Dalles I figure it's worth the monthly fee to have a monitored system. This LaserShield company provides a base unit and 2 IR sensors for cheap. The monthly fee is on a non contract basis so you can cancel one month and then re-up as you desire.
System works great and has a quick set up time. Like vonage you can take it with you as it will work on a cell or land line. Very cool.
