The clean up will begin at 11AM.
If you do participate in the clean up, please be sure to see Nicole for a voucher to get into the Kiteboarding party at River City in Hood River. Thanks again to 2nd Wind for hooking this up to the clean-up participants.

There has been a few updates to the clean up plan. The water level will most likey be high on Saturday due to the warming. If this is the case, We are going to focus on the beach and high water launch clean up, along with attempting to establish a pathway from the east end of the Sandbar to the west end.
The preliminary plans for a railroad crossing would be on the east end of the sandbar, so we're going to try and establish a trail to make this more feasible.
If the water is high, we will be scheduling a second clean up late this summer after the run off has finished.

Hey Yall,
We're hoping to get a strong turnout for this clean-up. I want to stress that even if you don't kite at Lyle, it would be super cool if you came anyway and helped out. For those of you that have never participated in a clean-up it's a really fun time and a great place to meet other kiters.

Update.
There has been a hiccup in our discussions with the USFS. We're unsure of the real cause but it has something to do with the National Scenic Area organization. We have a call in to one of their representatives to find out more.
We were not granted a permit to move/cut logs or trim weeds back. This is actually not a problem because the water level is high enough that most logs worth removing would be under water. The indigo bushes were lower priority and can easily be trimmed later once we receive a permit.
So, what are we going to do Saturday? We are going to clean the beach up. Remove all the Trash, move the dry drift wood back a few feet to expand the high water launch, and make the place look clean and natural. Then we're going to KITE! Update and to clarify.
It's not the Gorge Commission. The Gorge Commission appreciates the work we do to beautify any part of the Gorge.
The USFS owns the spit land. The USFS natural resource people are concerned about potential impacts to endangered fish and birds that use the area. They're also concerned about the liability issues they may encounter by allowing or encouraging people to cross the RR tracks to get to their land.
One thing to keep in mind is access to this site is going to take hard work and perseverance if we ever hope to have permanent approved access. We can show the USFS that we care about the land by cleaning up the trash and improving habitat for these birds and fish.
I hope that everyone will join me tomorrow at the Lyle Clean-Up.
