We left Portland with a dusting of fresh snow & headed for Florida. Kiteboarding in the Keys is awesome. Very Happy Very Happy We wanted to try something different, and the Keys have provided 4/4 days of 7m -11m conditions so far. Launch right off your ocean front camp at Long Key and Bahia Honda. We are at a B&B in Key west now, and I will post more pics soon. Hope you guys are gettin some- looks like East winds today Question - C

Jackpot! You found da goods. Thumb's Up

Checkout Looe Key snorkel trip or dive on your return trip if the wind dies- its pretty cool - you get to swim with giant bull sharks.

hey boardrider,

a lowdown on the trip when you get back would be much appreciated. i was thinking of heading to the keys but, opted for baja instead this winter. i heard that there were only one or two launches but, looks like you found something good.

do you have to stay at the campground to kite off that beach?

would like to hear any info you have found that is useful.

Thx guys, gals . My body just isn't in kiteboarding shape (including my hands) Evil or Very Mad . My impression of kiteboarding in the keys is that it just isn't that popular. I was the only one on the water at Bahia Honda today, and it was solid 11m. There are a number of established launches, ie. Islamorada, Long Key, Bahia Honda, and Key West's Smathers beach. Pay a day use fee or camp to use the SP beaches - Anne's beach and Smathers are free. If you are adventureous, I would think your possibilities would be endless - kind of like Hatteras. I don't know about the consistancy of the wind tho - Maybe I have just been lucky Very Happy . Some of the other guys here (on the forum) are way more familiar with Florida, and know much better. My parents friends winter down here, sail, and say it's windy often. My parents said it was windy the 2 weeks they were here, and thier friend said it was 20 kt. winds every day the week prior to our arrival Twisted Evil . The Keys would make a nice family kiteboarding vacation if you could count on the wind. There is more to do here than in Hatteras, and somewhat of a night life here in Key West. Take it easy guys. - C
