I think the skimboard companies are figuring out that kiteboarders are used to shelling out a few extra clams for nifty things like carbon fiber.

The Roush Carbon line of super high performance skims from Cabal are exact replicas of his latest designs. All ingredients in these boards including carbon cloth, core material, and type of epoxy resin are chosen only for their ability to match or exceed the flex characteristics, weight, and feel of a Roush Creations custom board. The outlines are round pins. The bottom contour and rocker are shaped with a small amount of tail kick for cranking turns and an ever so slight concave between your feet for speed and glide. Light weight combined with Roush's latest bottom shapes allows for a more compact and responsive sized board. Once again for 2006 Cabal has outdone themselves with this epic carbon skim. This is a must ride board, it weighs in just under 4lbs! Two sizes are available. 50" and 52.5".

The price of Carbon Fiber is going through the roof right now. That's if you can find any to start with. The wind energy folks and the millitary are using it up faster than the mills can weave the stuff. Expect to start paying more and more as the supply continues to go down.
