Wed Dec 12, 07 6:07 pm Banditos on Mt. Hood? |
|
|
I was told today that two men were shot on H26 returning from Meadows? The story goes that they were being tail-gated for several miles. Pulled over, the tail-gaiter pulled over as well and stopped behind them. Dad's got out of the car to see what was up and they were shot. Kids in the car are fine.
Anybody confirm this? |

| I Agree, banditos was not the best title. Regardless, I really hope they nail that SOB. |

| Man... If anyone rides my ass i slow way down and wait for them to pass. Then when they try to pass i speed up and not let them get in front. Thats just how i roll. Besides if im going 10-15mph over the speed limit you can just go around. Its not like its that hard. |

This is a really, really bad idea. I watched a documentary on road rage not too long ago, and a guy doing this very thing (slowed down, then sped up when they tried to pass) was given 25 years because he intentionally sped up when the car behind tried to pass, and ended up colliding with an oncoming car, killing one of the occupants.
Tailgaters are one of the most frustrating things on the road, even more so because if you read your drivers manual there really isn't jack that you're allowed to do about it other than get out of their way. Tapping the brakes isn't legal either. Be really careful when reacting to other drivers stupidity though, because cops & courts take it very seriously, and your totally understandable human reaction at the time may have very heavy consequences down the road. |

Such a bad idea. Do you not notice the signs that say "Slower Traffic Keep Right?" The trick is in the terms. It says SLOWER not slow. Besides, why should you be allowed to limit another person? It's arguably a violation of the first amendment. |

Spike, if that is the way you roll, you may want to consider rolling another way. Despite the fact that doing that pulling that kind of shit is dangerous that is EXACTLY the kind of behavior that will likely get you shot.
If someone is on your ass, just let them pass; NBD. While its usually some douche bag, sometimes people have a legitimate emergency and need to get somewhere. Imagine if you were trying to get your girlfriend or mother to the hospital and some douche bag is slowing down to let you pass then punching the gas...
Lame. |

| Like i said, If im going 10-15MPH over the speed limit, there is no reason someone needs to be riding my ass. Thats plenty over the speeed limit. Plus i dont drive in the "slow Lane" on 26 because they fill the cracks with tar and i dont like tar on my car. Its not good for the paint, plus its a pain to get off. Im not supporting the shooters or anything like that. I just dont put up with peoples shit. |

Spike -- Your idea of what is an acceptable speed over the limit may be different than someon else's.
That is way too much of PNW driving sentiment.
Don't try pulling that sh@t in California! |

Yeah, but I think the bigger question is, what's going to happen when someone doesn't want to put up with your shit?
You do make a valid point though. I would much rather get shot by some freak on a lonely stretch of 26 then get some tar on my car.
These rednecks weren't going to take any shit either..http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lh_gL7Az53o&feature=related |

WERD! Maybe this PNW attitude is why we have some of the slowest speed limits in the country?
I'm not condoning tailgating, but in almost all cases except for congestion you wouldn't be getting tailgated if you were paying attention to the signs on the road that instruct slower traffic to keep right and keeping an eye on what's happening behind you.
Again, you don't know when someone is experiencing an emergency and needs to get somewhere faster than 10 - 15 over... Its wrong to force your opinion on someone else which makes you no better than the tailgater in the first place. Unless you're psychic?

Fast lane is for passing. people who set cruise control at 5mph over and refuse to move to the right lane suck! I especially like it when someone takes 10 minutes to pass a semi. That's really fun.
84 is usually pretty fast driving with courteous drivers, but Holiday weekends....
What's ironic about this post? I am in the passenger seat in my car with girlfriend passing Semi's on the right. (wireless is cool) |

| What people need to realize is that you don't need to be going 60 mph on the mountain, slower is safer. If i ever pull over to let some a-hole tailgater pass and he pulls over too thats when i'm going to hit the gas and get the eff out of there. seriously though, just slow it down people there's no need to rush on ice or snow, we don't need any fatal accidents this holiday season. |
