NW Kite House in SPI for Nov, any interest?

So I'm planning on spending most (or all) of November in South Padre Island, TX. I was debating between camping or finding a room for rent when I got the kite house idea.

If there's enough interest I could potentially rent out a nice condo/house for the month. After taxes and fees a nice two bedroom place near the beach comes out to $1700 (give or take a hundred). I was hoping not to spend more than $300 on housing so I could throw that in and sleep in one of the bedrooms or even in the living room (depending on demand) and rent the place out to the NW kiting crew for something like $350/week (these condos usually go for $750-850/week). We could easily sleep up to 5 other people in the condo (on beds and fold out). This could be an awesome way to get to know each other better and get a cheap and convenient kite vacation in before the snow hits. The air temp is still in the high 80s to low 90s with water temps in the low 80s. Based on historical data the water temp avg is 71 for Nov. I guess for the most part it should be board shorts or shorties unless the occassional cold front comes through, but if that happens then at least you get lots of wind Smile

. It's been windy the last 6/8 days (including today) so hopefully the La Nina weather will provide for lots of wind next month.

I'd definitely be stoked to put this together so let me know if there's any interest.

Carol, Rebecca and will be down in SPI from Oct. 27th through Dec. 10th but we already have our 1 BR condo so we'll just have to host a couple of rum tasting sessions for any of the NW crew that shows up. Drunk

We got down there last year around the middle of November and mostly had good wind. There were a couple of cold days when the northerlies blew through but mostly it was shorty weather until about the end of November.

Hope to see some of the NW gang there!

Nice! Just need another one or two takers and we can make this happen. Flights are relatively cheap and the wind is blowing.

Here is what is happening right now in South Padre....

The same front that raised Hell in Seattle, last week, just arrived...the temperature just dropped from 84 to 66F in an hour.

Here is a picture I just took of my wind meter pegged...INSIDE our building.

The season is upon us....Bring It!

so what are the water temps like there through mid dec?

Not 100% sure here, but I think they hover in the low 80s to high 70s at least through November and probably into Dec. Might want to check some historical averages to be sure.

FYI I just booked a 2 bedroom condo for a month. I'll start somewhere between Nov 2-4th and rent it until Dec. 2-4.

There's still space available so let me know if you'd like a bedroom for part of the month. It'll be real cheap, and the house is located less than a block from the Gulf side beach close to the kite spots.

Water temp is the average of the last couple days air temp.

The air temp can be 80 degrees one day and 50 or less the next depending on the fronts moving through and wind direction. South winds are nice and toasty, north winds can be real cold.

November will probably be pretty nice but into December you will get more rain and cold.

My last trip in the fall was in late October, most of the time in was blistering hot board shorts weather.... Then on the last day I had my fullsuit, gloves, and booties on and I was still chilled.

Better bring all the outfit options then ha? So the water temp fluctuates that much? I thought the sea would be more static like the ocean to some extent. In any case I'll take the board shorts and the full wetsuit days as long as it's blowing Very Happy

The water is very shallow and there's not a big tidal influence, so it warms up and cools down fast.

But yeah just take all your gear and ride no matter what the temps... and who knows could be awesome and warm the whole time.
