Don't know if this is the best way to set up a poll here but:
During the summer we all get out there and rip, but what about the other seasons?
DO YOU
A. Real men don't sit around if its windy no matter how cold and nasty the weather is, they just throw on another layer of neo.
B. Hibernate until its sunny and warm.
C. C-ya in mexico for the next six months!
D. I just go snowkiting instead

how about D?
i think it all depends on how much stoke you have for the sport, i take it pretty seriously.
the winter provides just as much wind/snow as any summer season. If that's not acurrate then move.(C)

I am under the impression that many people go snowkiting, does this mean that all of you have snow mobiles? Is the crater lake area accessible without a snow mobile?
if I need a sled for D, then I'll pick A

| Hardly any of us have sleds. I'm saving for one. I just spend the entire winter hitting the park and Heather's Canyon with my powder-piggy wife. I start looking for kiting sessions in March. I'm trying to change this with the purchase of a sled, but who knows at this point. I've heard so many differing opinions as to whether St Helens is good for snow kiting.

| Snowboarding man. Its a way for me to get my full stoke back at the start of next season. If I do the same thing year round I will lose the super stoke factor.

It's all about trying new things and progressing. That's what keeps the stoke going. If you push yourself (whether kiting or snowboarding) you'll always be super stoked!
I snowboard and try to get a few storm kiting sessions in, but that's when I was in California. Not sure if I'll kite in the water here too much once it's too cold for my wetsuit. Would be stoked to try snowkiting though. This year I'm hoping for a combo of A, C and D

Ya, I know.
high 40's to low 50's water temp sounds like the cutoff for kitesurfing for most people then. November until March is really 30's water temp? Ouch! Unless U R certified ironman , I don't know if I would touch that either. would the coast be warmer? I wonder...

Yeah, last winter I was seeing lows ~37 at Astoria/Clatsop Spit in late December through early February. And generally the central coast seems to be ~5 degrees warmer than in the summer (~55 range) when the warmer water gets pushed north.

| Cannon beach is reporting 58F water and 53F air. That's pretty warm water for the coast. Not sure about the river, but it felt decently warm in the wetsuit on Tuesday. Probably in the low to mid 60s.

| I was wearing my 4.3 shorty on Tuesday, and though the water is a lot colder than a few weeks ago, it's not figid yet. I agree. Low 60s is my guess.

I think the coldest the ocean and mouth of the columbia get is low 40's
- Rooster and below Bonneville sees 37.
Done some whitewater kayaking in glaciated river water in Alaska (the put in was at the base of the glacier) with the river pouring out of an ice cave - water was near or below freezing - felt pretty bad when I flipped surfing a hole - felt like being slapped in the face and then lit on fire - I pitoned the boat on a rock wall trying to get my eyes to focus - sort of cool - definetly retarted - just like these guys

keep in mind the montana snowkite rodeo should be on again this winter. Last year it was in february. not to be missed. mt. haggin is a gem.
