I just visited Jim at MCMC in The Dalles. He is doing better... No ruptured spleen... just a few broken ribs, broken clavical and internal bruises. He is hoping to be released in a few days. He will have at least a 4-6 month recovery.
He was just being showed by an eager friend what is is like to fly a kite. Shit did happen and he got hurt. Kite was a Cabrina 9m.... relatively new one.

What lesson can we all learn from this? If you want to learn to kite.... go get professional instruction. I learned from a friend, but was lucky enough to have a VERY experienced and safety aware instructor... which is probably not the norm.

Glad to hear he's alright! And about the kite, my friends can't tell the difference between Cabs and Naishes. Wink

I wonder why he is in the hospital for so long. I broke my clavicle and 3 ribs in a DH crash, they x-rayed me, gave me a an arm sling and sent my home with a bunch of pain meds.

He must be at risk for internal bleeding.

Crap, sounds like his bank account is at risk of the same thing.
