You and your team did a great job. It was fun watching the race. Counting at Viento was interesting. Four riders came in there, along with someone who tossed a phone on the beach and then kept going.
The Suburban was packed with Nancy and I, two Goldens, and four kiters with gear going back to the Spit
The wind came up about 50% after the first half of the kites came through.
Sky must have been five minutes ahead at marker 28. Looking forward to more pictures
Maybe I'll ride next year. It looked like fun.

No argument on that.
I would have opted for a strapped surf board however I haven't spent enough time on oneto consider running one.
I left my jump skis at home as well for the same reason.

I was one of the few girls out there, and I rode a North 14m Rhino 2008 Prototype and a Jaime M twin tip. Really sad that I didn't do better, since I was on the same size(14m) Rhino protokite as Sky and Ken. It must have been the board
I wanted to check here to see how I did compared to the other girls. How many did the race? I saw one woman, I didn't recognize come in after me, but wasn't sure if any others were there before me. Any ideas why not more? Fun Race!

12m Waroo and strapless surfboard - seemed like a good idea. But got the full meal deal - from dropping the kite twice in the doldrums near Wind Mountain (give me some Wind!) to having a full on kite invert and beat down in psycho gusts just 15 minutes later (UNCLE!).
DNF - next year skim and 19m!

I rode my 13m ’07 Fuel and Fuse (149cm). Was wishing I had rigged the 17.5m Machine as I felt under powered ~50% of the time.
G-man, how’d you get out of the river & where??
Congrats to Sky! I heard a sonic boom when he passed me…

Rollo and Shay had my back - nice to have your buds show up just as your kite bursts into flames - just before Drano Lake - I got it relaunched and they were going to take off but the inverting and subsequent torture deflated the leading edge too much so it would take flight then fall out of the sky.
super lucky

Adam, that was funny when they started the race because we were both looking at each other and you seemed a little lit about it. I think I was the second to last kite out on the water so by the time I started, the was no kite to be seen. I had the whole river to myself. I stopped and checked on some kiters along the way that either were self rescuing or finding a board.
this was definitely the best downwinder I have done this summer so thanks to you, shay, the sponsors, and all the other volunteers who worked hard to put this together. It is recognized by us so keep it coming. I look forward to the next one.
BTW I was taking my time on a 12m rebel and a surfboard. Never really experienced a gust or very many lulls. Just took my time and enjoyed the scenery.

Yeah, I was just stepping off the launch pads when the horn blew and at that point knew, the race was over. 10 more minutes guys. the race had already been postponed three times. Maybe next year we can get some better communication like there was for the BOG event. Noone confirmed that all the kiters were off the beach. And please spare me the "Its racing"! This is still a family sport even on race day boys and girls. Rest of the weekend was epic.

PS M apologys to Hein at Rufus Sunday. We both found ourseles in a predicament close to shore and ran into each other. Sorry Hein, your right, there wasnt much for either of us to do. Goes to show in this sport anything can happen. Alway watch for your buddy.
BIG THANKS TO SLINGSHOT FOR ALL THE AFTER PARTY SHWAG!

I was told the guy who was taking names said "no one cares after 20" and went kiteing. Anyone else hear this? Never been to a race with that attitude before. |
Yea, I also heard him say this and noticed that he missed a few people who came in the top 20. I think his name is Grady or something like that. Negative dude and a downer for people who came in and couldn't get their results.
Great event but I hope the start and finish are better organized next year with more volunteers.

I feel for anybody who was still on land when the horn sounded. I've been-there in a past Blowout and it didn't feel good. That said, this Blowout crew did a fantastic job given their limited resources.
In my opinion, this year ran more smoothly than even the big money years with Subaru and the following year Ford sponsoring. I wasn't crazy about the land finish, but nothing's gonna be absolutely perfect. It did give me a chance to ride onto land for the first (and hopefully) only time this year. I still have some sand finding its way outa' me.
Overall, by comparison to past years, great job. The bbq was super cool too.
My setup was a 06' LF M80 16.0 C-kite (Shymac photo lower right) and long-azz lines, and a 2002 skinny twintip with full year 2000 bindings. It's helps me to know that no matter how hard-a-beat-down I take, I'm not coming off the board. I took a couple-a-crushing-doozies, but remained with the board bound to my feet.
Especially enjoyed the Tucker 10+ mile duel. Great time.

I was on an 11m (SLE) and surfboard with straps.

I was riding an 8ft couch powered by German style pretzels........came in last but stayed very relaxed the whole race.

We were operating with a skeleton crew at the finish, and my apologies to anyone who's time did not get recorded.
Just finishing the race is an accomplishment in itself & my hats off to everyone who took the challenge, especially the ladies that stepped up.
I have a ton of pictures to post, I just have not had a chance yet.
Thanks again to all of the participants, volunteers, and sponsors who made this event happen.

Here is a pic of the 2004 blowout reader board. Note the winning time was 1:14
This year at least 15 of us were done by that time. Also note how many kites there were on the board compared to windsmurferpoleboards.

| now that I understand the event a little better, perhaps next year, we put a clock above a white board and you just write in your name and time yourself (after the initial cluster gets in). You can then calculate your own time based on the 'official' start time.

Conditions where much better this year & IMHO, there was little to no death zone on the lee side of wind mt that I noticed this year.
2004 was another battle of the big kites and Seattlites did have a good showing that year as well. Seems we spend a fair amount of time on big kite :-l
Oh, one other thing, in 2004 the wind damn nearly completely shut off before the fleet got up the first can (~2 mile down wind).
That lull from hell took out at least half the fleet.
cheers,
John
ps. Please try to get numbered jersey's for next year, they help reduce confusion
