Adam, that was funny when they started the race because we were both looking at each other and you seemed a little lit about it. I think I was the second to last kite out on the water so by the time I started, the was no kite to be seen. I had the whole river to myself. I stopped and checked on some kiters along the way that either were self rescuing or finding a board.
this was definitely the best downwinder I have done this summer so thanks to you, shay, the sponsors, and all the other volunteers who worked hard to put this together. It is recognized by us so keep it coming. I look forward to the next one.
BTW I was taking my time on a 12m rebel and a surfboard. Never really experienced a gust or very many lulls. Just took my time and enjoyed the scenery.

I was a little "upset" about it at the time, but i'm over it now. Actually, i was over it after about 5 pints into the keg.

Hats off to the the race committee!!!!!!
They stated when the race would start and actually stated on track starting the 5 minutes count down sequence at 2:30pm.
IN the future if you're running in a 'wind race" buy a water proof watch with a count down and pay attention to it.
Any racer worth their salt will tell you, it's the skippers responsibility to be on the water for the start.
Personally I'm glad I kept track of my overall time and had it 1:19
My only "mistake" was not riding the 17.5 machine Brain Hively set both Wally & I up with in addition to the 150 Slingshot Fuse directionals.

Oh, so Wally the Gator ran the 17.5 and finished 10.
I ran my 13m waroo and found myself wanting more power finihidn at 1:19 minutes.
On an unrelated note, I understand the Gator had a helping of Hein for lunch on Sunday at Rufus however I didn't see the incident.
Hein, I'd like to Demo you latest & greatest!!!

Be interested for everyone to post their kite size and board setup.
I was on an 11m (SLE) and surfboard with straps.
I believe Sky was on a strapped surfboard and 14m SLE... man he was just gone! 
I think bigger kites were okay but you really needed to have a kite you could handle for that long, and sometimes working bigger kites gets really tough. If I could do it again I'd probably go for a 13m, but overall I was really happy with how I finished. I was just trying to beat Tucker which I might of if I didn't try to take the Wells Island shortcut

| Should mention too that Sky had an interesting technique where right from the start he took long zig zag tacks, instead of most people who took short zig-zags or just went straight downwind. At first it looked like it wasn't going to pay off (he went sideways while everyone else was beating him downwind.) but then he turned around and tacked the other way and he was pretty quickly a quarter mile ahead of the pack!

Not to mention the super-quick jibes he was performing on that surf....WOW 
yeah, I kinda got that idea after watching Dano zig-zag..so I played follow the leader, and got the hang of it..!

I was on a 12 sle and strapped 5'5"surfboard. Good setup but wish there would have been a touch more wind. Signing a 12 gets old. I would have preferred a 9 sle. Especially since I had a helix in my quiver 
Oh yeah that gust was brutal! I didnt see that one coming. Next thing I know I am superman! By the time I had the kite back up in the air the gust was gone.... so was the group I was with.
I also would have liked a asprin or two for the numb rear leg 
I was 1:19ish at finish.

Mine was all borrowed gear! Thanks Tucker for the last min kite.
Probably not recommended for a first time 17 mile downwinder to borrow gear you've never been on..but it worked out OK.
Turbo 11m or 12M, not sure, and 129 Lunacy (Thanks Amery)

On another note, it looks like the majority of the top finishers were on kites designed right here in the gorge, both North and Slingshot.
1. Sky Solbach -- 53.5

12 wahoo and a fuse...
didn't know what the heck i was doing and went straight (or pretty straight) downwind... after the lul-ly part... i watched chanson fly by on a long tack... that sped me up considerably!

I was on the 13m Slingshot Rev, the colorful proto with Mexi tassles. I rode an old Underground mutant, a little narrow, I wish snagged a Fuse 149. Very cool bunch of guys that were in the head of the pack, good sailors, lots of respect! Great party at the finish, the ceiling of my sprinter never stopped spinning, yuk! thanks guys.
I was on the water at 2:10, just as instructed. Had a great start, stuck to Sky like glue and then poof!!, he was gone....... awesome.
