I mixed some magic pixie dust in with some resin
and made a glow in the dark board. Do one of you
digital camera buffs think you can capture that?
Here's a picture with the lights on:
The yellow parts glow in the dark.

The Canon 1D Mark II captures incredible images at sensitive film speeds (ISO 3500) with minimal noise or artifacts.
Would be stoked to shoot the glow stick- I think it would have some crazy supernatural aura. _________________ www.lancekoudele.com |

Hein,
Give me a call, I'll be in the Gorge this weekend and happen to have a 1D MKII with me. By the way how's my pulley bar coming along?

Thanks Lee. You can come by any time
in the morning. Afternoons are for fun.
Got kinda side tracked on the pulley bars.
Been machining surfboards and finishing up
some new kiteboards plus designing an 18'
fishing boat kit for Fiberglass Supply.
Got the bars ordered from Wes but I still
need to make up some pulleys.

I'm going for a ride in post canyon early in the morning so I'll give you a call when we're done. Should be around 10:00am.

Why do you care about high ISO? You're taking a picture of a board, just use long shutter speed with ISO100.
You'll probably need two shots anyway to show it glowing.
But why would anyone care about glowing paint on a board? Kitesurfing at night is not very popular.. |

Lose a board in the surf, then you'll know. |

Hmm.. For that I'd want REFLECTIVE board (mirrors), not glowing in the dark. No? |

You want bling, I can do bling:
Glow in the dark is just something fun to try. Plus
I got the only glow-stick board on the planet. So there!
Actually I've ridden at night and it's hard to find your
board if it's floating upside down. Maybe this will help.
And the 127 Surf Chip is fun. Rode it strapless with
an 11 at Rufus today. Carves a great turn at speed.

Another fun sexxion on the SurfChip at Rufus with a 7m
No glow in the dark shots yet but here are some detail shots:
I'm liking the (black) concave deck pad and find myself wrapping
my toes around the edge of it when I'm carving.
Bottom is a rounded V entry into a slightly V'd double (side cut)
concave with progressive v side panels. Got a rendering of
the CAD model that shows the bottom really well.
I'm having a lot of fun on this board. Not really a skim-board;
not a wake-skate; not a surfboard. SurfChip

And here's another new shape:

Hope you don't mind me keeping you posted on my progression
with the Surf Chip....
I wanted to spend some time in smooth water yesterday so I
could work on my footwork while jibing and to see just how hard
I could carve the Chip.
On surfboards, splay angle (tilting the fin outwards) enhances
maneuverability. The slots in the board are vertical but
a property of the polycarbonate Thin Fins allowed me to add
splay in a neat way - thermoforming:
Take a close look at the curved thrusters. (left one shows it
well) I heated the fins to about 400 F and hand formed them.
I'll be setting up a heated mold to control the geometry better.
The board was carving like a dream in the flat water even at
incredible velocity. I was able to roughly compare speeds with
a jetski dude who was speeding around. I was lit on a 9m. The
Chip cut through the boat wake chop very well and I could
stay on it even at full bore. I could set the rail as hard as I wanted
and the board would hold. Oh what a feeling!
Sorry, no kiteboarder witnesses though - it was a solo sesh.
Now if I could learn to ollie....
-Hein
P.S. I don't care if you order one. Actually I wish you wouldn't
so I can spend more time working on a slightly bigger version
with a swallow tail.
DAX: I sanded these fins with some 320 to make them opaque.
You asked about improving visiliblity on yours and this will help.
Just tape off the board along each side of the fin and lightly sand
each side. Looks pretty cool I think. Last edited by Hein on Mon Aug 29, 05 5:45 pm; edited 3 times in total |

Looks kinda like a Wakesurf board...I've been wondering how a wakesurf board would perform at higher speeds with a kite...usually surfing a wave behing a boat at 10mph |
