I think I am going to do it on my twintip, but also thought about straps on the surfboard might be good if its lighter. |
I'm thinking of using this.......who's gonna finish second?

Tucker Park is great, its only about 10 minutes south of downtown HR. Just get there early it fills up fast.

How difficult is the blowout? It sounds like allot of fun but unfortunately, due to my injury my endurance is really really low. I get tired just watching people KB. Add that with my limited down winder experience....
what do you guys think? Can a competent yet somewhat crippled guy finish it? It seems like a really long way.

Hmmm If I were you I would pass. Its a long way with few bail out points.
You could always start at Viento and join us....

PDXmonkey, the last 2 years I did it (last 2 years of the Gorge Games), I believe only half the kiters who started actually finished.

There have been people out running the course all week for practice.
Today there is a group running it this afternoon. Come on out!!
Also, I have heard that a growing group of kiters are going to surf the swells from Stevenson to the Spit starting between 11-12 on Saturday. Going for longest time rather than shortest. So, if you are not doing the Blowout this could be an alternative downwinder.

sunday looks a lot better. these kinds of events should really be run on the best day of a couple instead of 1 committed day. i think that's how the windsurfers do it.

I couldn't agree more... 5-15 with gusts to 30 isn't going to be much fun anyways. Just need a solid 30-35!

This event is set up with Sunday as a back up day.
George seems to think we will be ok tomorrow.
A slow start but Central Gorge sites build to 20-24 in the afternoon.
Weak high pressure is building in over the region. Gorge gradients should be weak in the morning but increasing onshore flow in the afternoon should help gradients build later in the day. Coast Range gradients should build some in the afternoon which should help late afternoon wind at Jones Beach. Coastal sites look weak with a developing low center offshore killing the NW flow.
ā¢ Strongest Gorge wind should be in the afternoon from Stevenson to The Event Site in the 20-24 range. Morning wind looks pretty light and it may be a slow start for the blowout but by afternoon the westerlies should be pretty healthy. Eastern Gorge sites look lighter but Rowena and Doug's should reach 19-23 late in the day.

The race will start when the conditions are favorable.
